You may visit the Japanese Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, and ask about

their newly announced assistance (Reference (b) above(*)).  They may be able to introduce you some Japanese e-learning courses, which may be able for your students in Kenya be able to receive.

(*) As you see in this web site, at the TICAD in Yokohama in Japan on June 1-3, the Japanese government  announced US$32 billion assistance to Africa — including US$14 billion out of the Japanese government’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) fund — in the next 5 years.  This is in addition of US$6.5 billion for construction of transportation highways — the TICAD-IV in 2008 did announced US$4 billion for the same.

The leader ought to be at the bottom of the inverse pyramid to energize youngsters’ creativity — as boiling water with a fire so that water molecules jumps vigorously — as the so-called “Brown Movement.” This is particularly necessary for Africa where there are abundantly available young brainpower, which is the raw material of the Knowledge Society in the 21st Century.

Your observation of our GEWS project sounds like “Zen” Buddhism. Thank you very much, indeed!!

As you may recall, the Late Steve Jobs of Apple was a firm Zen Buddhist as often taking his kids to Kyoto to learn its simplicity and serenity for building the world largest technological giant in just a few decades. -- his firm believing in eastern culture prevented him to take western medical care, and hence led to his death.

On the other hand, Ibuka, the founder of SONY, took the transistor technology out of Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ which became the essence of Walkman tape-recorder.  According a legend, Ayatollah Khomeini in Paris recorded his teaching into the Walkman and sent its tape to Teheran for mass distribution which subsequently brought the Iranian Revolution in 1979.  Some then call it the SONY revolution.  As seeing the demise of SONY in recent years, a New York Times article said that SONY should have acquired Apple instead of going to Hollywood.  In a sense, this is the symbol of the failure of transition from analog to digital culture in Japan.

You may be interested in this Japanese phenomena, as the President of the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON).

am now preparing the grant application for the planning workshop which will have a demonstration to verify the energy proposition made by Obama/Gore — see its brief below;

==================================================================We will conduct a gaming/simulation demonstration on the following two GKCN (GEWS) concepts under the auspices of the Center for International Conflict Resolution in the School of International and Public Affair (SIPA) of Columbia University in New York City in the first day of the workshop (*) to be organized;

(*) This workshop is to be after the one at the Stevens Institute of Technology — for which, we already submitted our grant application to the NSF.

(a)  Paradigm shift in the international political science field with the combined use of normative (role-playing) gaming and quantitative (model-based) simulation,

(b)  Distributed simulation as using both of Nigerian and US simulation models, which will be interlinked through broadband Internet with the GLOSAS/USA’s patent pending procedure.

The objective is to verify the energy policy proposed by President Barack Obama and former Vice President Al Gore, specifically, their emphasis on replacing fossil fuels with renewable sources (e.g., wind and/or solar energy) to generate electricity in the USA in ten years <http://tinyurl.com/66sk9d> in relation to appropriate allocation of oil revenue in Niger Delta of Nigeria <http://tinyurl.com/2df8ybu>. We will examine how this would affect oil revenue in Niger Delta of Nigeria, and the consequences to other economic and social structures, particularly in Nigeria.  We will ask if this is a viable direction with global perspectives.   If their policies succeed, there would be a change in revenue to the Nigerian government. Also, what would be the consequences to other economic and social structures in the US and in other countries, particularly Nigeria?  Would this be a viable direction with global perspectives? This is because 97% of total Nigerian federal government revenue comes from oil export, 40% of which is exported to North America — another 23% to Europe and 16% to the Far Eastern countries, including Japan, South Korea, and China. Thus, if Gore and Obama’s proposals succeed in the U.S. (and are emulated in Far Eastern countries later), it would mean the end of oil revenue for the Nigerian government — in a sense, a severe blow to them. We will balance the global consequences of the proposal with the national consequences for Nigeria, which could be devastating, particularly when the US is expected to become energy independent with the use of hydraulic fracturing technology for producing shale oil and gas by 2030, in addition to Gore/Obama

energy proposition mentioned above. A remedy to cope with this devastating crisis could be as follows: the money saved by the US and the Far Eastern countries as a consequence of not importing oil from Nigeria may be reserved as credits for the Cap and Trade system, which would be donated to: 

(a)  Nigeria, to establish the so-called Education Center in Niger Delta region emulating Qatar, to export educational services to nearby countries as Cuba does,

(b)  ECOWAS (which includes Nigeria) to foster e-learning, e-healthcare and e-governance, etc. in its member and other African countries with “Peace-Corps” type help from Nigeria, particularly with the use of newly launched Nigerian domestic satellite.

This would be the win-win solution at a global scale. After this event, we plan to continue this gaming/simulation exercise in collaborative fashion between Columbia University and Nigerian universities, e.g., Obafemi Awolowo University, Rivers State University of Science and Technology in Port Harcourt, etc.==========================================================================

Hope you are doing well. I am still in Nairobi, Kenya. Distance Education For Africa (deafrica) has launched its courses and services.

We offer courses in IT, Journalism, English Language. Our programs are offered  in both French and English.We also collaborate with African Universities to provide capacity building for their staff and we seek funding jointly to work on projects.

Deafrica would like to collaborate with some institutions dealing with Online Learning and Teaching in Japan to do joint projects. Any suggestion will be welcome.

Dear Prof. Utsumi,Greetings. Great engagement I read the submission of Benjamin Peterson with great delight.

His thought process has confirmed once more - and vividly so, that, though 'human live will eventually be irreversibly and positively transformed' to a point that there will be no difference between human and machine or between physical and virtual reality.

But the hard fact remains that as laudable as the above goal is, it may not be achieved without World Peace Gaming strategy;and by extension - sustained by collective Broad-minded service mission.
