Annual Reports
The Annual Reports of the Geological Survey of WesternAustralia, incorporated within the Mines DepartmentAnnual Reports, were produced between 1897 and 1980.Exceptions to this are the Geological Survey AnnualReports for 1954, 1955, 1956, and 1957 which werepublished in the Bulletin series: nos 109, 112, 113, and 114respectively
The Annual Report conventionally contained a review ofGeological Survey activities for the previous year, thoseprojected for the year of publication, staff movements, divisional operations, and a number of technical papers onmatters of geological significance.
As of 1981, the practice of publishing a separate AnnualReport for the Geological Survey (within the MinesDepartment Annual Report) was discontinued.Administrative details and annual programs continue to beincluded in the Mines Department Annual Reports, and aredescribed in more detail in the annual ‘Summary of theprogress of the Geological Survey’ which is published inthe Record series (commencing in 1982).
Geoscientific papers of the type that were included in theAnnual Reports prior to 1981 were subsequently publishedin the Report series as ‘Professional Papers’ (commencingwith Professional Papers for 1982) until 1994, when they, too, were discontinued.
Some Geological Survey Annual Reports have not beenavailable in book form for several years, and stocks ofothers are very low. However, all can be viewed in theGeological Survey Library in both book and microficheform.
In 1994 the Geological Survey resurrected its annual report— called Geological Survey of Western Australia AnnualReview. Copies are available free of charge.
