Volume 1 Issue 3 GSC News January 2015 １ Felicitation of Dr. L V Muralikrishna Reddy President, IEI From Chairman’s desk Dear Member, The past month witnessed two international events : Pravasi Bhartiya Divas and Vibrant Gujarat Investors’ Summit 2015. As dignitaries in unprecedented numbers descended from all over the world, we had hectic activities. Inspite of this, we have tried to continue our run without much interruption. President IEI, who had just taken over in the 3 rd week of December at Hyderabad visited Ahmedabad. We took an opportunity to felicitate him at the Center. We had a short seminar, a one day workshop and one lecture from our UK based member Dr Kunal Kansara, who on his own offered to share his experience.. We are organising two All India Seminars in April & May for which we have called for papers. Do contribute in your area of interest. Our drive for enrolling new members from across the State is gaining momentum with the push received from the President. I solicit your support in this attempt. We are starting evening Coaching classes for AMIE students after these are formally inaugurated during the 1 st week of February. Dr Reddy while thanking for the gesture, outlined the contours of growth for the Institution. He stressed the need for doubling the Corporate membership of the Center in order to reach out to more and more people. Looking to the fact that women are taking to engineering in large numbers, he emphasised the necessity to have a separate cell for women engineers. He desired that GSC should take a proactive role and set an example for others to emulate.He narrated several initiatives lined up to make The Institution more vibrant. Chairman of the State Center welcomed the President and drew the career sketch of the President.Council member Shri Navin Vasoya who had several occasions to work closely with the President IEI

He briefly narrated thecontribution made by Dr L.V.Muralikrishna Reddy as Director,National Design & researchForum of The Institution ofEngineers(India).Shri CV Nadpara,Hon Secretary proposed Vote ofThanks. The program wasattended by Shri P.N.Jain,Secretary R & B Department andpast Chairman of the Center,besides other past Chairman ShriM.K. Jadav and Shri BharatbhaiPatel,Shri O.T.Gulati, ChairmanWater Management Forum, largenumber of Gujarat State CenterCommittee members, Corporatemembers and Students.
Pipelines for conveyance ofdrinking water supply as well asfor irrigation have to lift water togreater heights resulting in surgeformation due to water hammer.This damages the whole systemand in the longer run affects thefunctioning of the systemadversely.Therefore surge controlis a very important aspect whichneeds to be taken intoconsideration. Prof SrinivasaLingiReddy of Kentuki University,USA made a thought provoking
presentation on this subject on22nd January at the Center whichwas attended by engineers andconsultants engaged in thebusiness of designing and layingof pipeline system and largenumber of engineering collegestudents who took live interest.
Er M.K.Jadav and Er S.K.Puranikhave been appointed on theCommittee of GSC.Congratulations.
Looking to the fact that more andmore women are taking toengineering, GSC has constituteda Women Engineers’Sub-Committee to motivatewomen engineers and toencourage their participation inwomen oriented programs and tohighlight their contribution andsuccess in engineering field.Dr. A.Kulshreshtha and Dr. SwetabenDave have consented to be on theSub-Committee.
