To experience this place is the only way to disolve the fear that leads you to it.
To arrive as an individual is the only way to disseminate that we are all unified in death.
To erect new boundaries is not to obscure what lies beyond us, but to continually unveil the edge of what brings us.
It is a place uncovered by the actions of individuals.
A constructed precipice exchanges a look with the wounded hemlock grove.
Hallowed ground reveals and swallows itself in the vibration between an existing landscape and a new horizon.

❤ the StreetArts Week Austin creates an opportunity for using public space in a new way: the delight of lingering in a street that is usually dominated by auto traffic. We propose that the surface of the street be left uncovered, the gallery walls lifted off the pavement, and the structure touching the ground as minimally as possible. The traffic paint, cracks in the pavement, and street texture are all part of the experience.
Reusable PartsThe structure is simple, common, and ordinary. It is made from scaffolding parts: steel rods, clamps, and base plates. These parts are readily available and easily reusable, therefore highly sustainable. The roofs, walls, and columns would be built off-site. Shortly before Arts Week Austin 2010 the components would be assembled to form the gallery spaces. When the exhibition is over, the structure will be disassembled and the scaffolding parts will return to their everyday use, perhaps on a construction project in Austin.
Museum ExperienceA TOG (Temporary Outdoor Gallery) may stand on its own or be joined with other TOGs to form a network. The system is flexible enough that each gallery space can be uniquely defined by scale, degree of enclosure, and contextual relationships. A limitless variety of spaces can be created. We propose a structure that promotes free movement through the gallery spaces. The experience will be similar to walking through an art museum where visitors can choose their own path through a series of unique interconnected spaces.
Filtering SunlightThis project captures a horizontal sliver of space between the pavement and a broad diaphanous roof plane. Sunlight will filter into the galleries from above through translucent polycarbonate panels, a matrix of scaffolding, and a silk-screened fabric scrim. At night it will glow from within.
