“Growth in Challenging Times”Uttar Pradesh | Annual Report | 2009-2010
At the outset, I would like to thank
you all for reposing faith in me as the
head, CII Uttar Pradesh for the year
2009-10. During this year CII Uttar
Pradesh carried forward the theme
‘Growth in Challenging Times’, which
was reflected in all the activities
undertaken.
The year has been a challenging one
for the Indian Industry with the
downturn. Several sectors such as
real estate, petroleum imports,
cement, steel, auto and exports were
badly affected. Small businesses
also bore the brunt.
But the silver lining was the domestic
market, particularly the rural market
which remained relatively strong.
Fortunately, the crisis has now
receded and Indian services &
manufacturing sector is penetrating
the global markets once again.
In retrospect, all our endeavors were
in consonance with the state's
objective towards salvaging growth
in the global recessionary period and
facilitating economic growth as an
active partner with the state
government harnessing the state’s
immense potential.
The year saw a number of interactive
sessions with key government
officials. CII continued to be
represented on major working
groups and advisory boards of the
state government like the Tripartite
Labor Committee, Council of
Science and Technology (IPR
Division), Environment Policy

Geographical Indication (GI) is one form of Intellectual Property Protection which can protect these intangible assets for identity and reputation in the National and International Market. In due course, with proper enforcement mechanism these GIs can provide business opportunities and Wealth Creation to the end users that are artisans, weavers and craftsman. The GI can also be commercially leveraged for enhancing incomes of such artisans while providing assurance of product quality to consumers.
With this perspective, Export Promotion Bureau, Government of Uttar Pradesh invited CII Uttar Pradesh State Office to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, for facilitating the GI registration of six products in Uttar Pradesh. These products include Locks of Aligarh, Sports goods of Meerut, With the objective to review the substantial fall in Patchworks of Rampur, Kababs of Lucknow and the production of sugar in the state, assess Petha, Dalmot & Marble Work of Agra.challenges & opportunities and arrive at
