4-H Online Enrollment Open

Enrollment for the new 4-H year is open September 1—November 1, 2019. Take a look at our website for step by step directions on how to get enrolled and all the details of joining 4-H!

For all 4-H Online enrollments, a green clover with your name and club will be posted in the office. Every 25 youth enrollments, 1 winner will be drawn for 4-H goodies! The earlier you enroll, the more chances you have win!!

4-H Record Books

4-H record books are a way to reflect back on the 4-H year. The purpose of 4-H record keeping is to teach how to keep records, which is an important life skill. Record keeping is an ongoing process that does not end when the 4-H year ends or when the 4-H career ends.

The objectives for 4-H record keeping include:

To learn how to set goals, how to make plans for action, and how to decide how well you did (evaluation).

To learn the skills of record keeping and organization to use now and in the future.

To learn to communicate and summarize.

To learn responsibility by completing a task.

To evaluate information that will market personal skills through future resumes and application forms.

4-H members in grades 4-12 are required to complete a 4-H record book to be eligible for awards at Jamboree

4-H members in grades 9-12 are required to complete a 4-H record book to be eligible for County Youth Council

**Clover Kids do not submit record books!

Record books are due to your club leaders in September (check with your club leaders on your specific club deadline!) Club leaders will check record books, nominate 4-H members for eligible awards, and bring them to the Extension Office by 5:00pm on October 1, 2019. The Youth Committee then checks record books and votes on awards. All awards are announced and record books are given back at the yearly "Jamboree" awards ceremony in the fall.

This page includes record book guidelines on the required pages to include in your record book along with the order you should have them organized in. Pages may be opened in PDF, Word or Google Docs, as typing your records and printing, or printing and using neat handwriting are both options. Please read the Record Keeping Guidelines form carefully, as it goes over all the details of what should and shouldn't be included in your record book. All forms should be filled out completely before placing in your record book. Record book evaluation forms, award requirements, nomination forms, and officer record book requirements are also available to view on this page. These forms are used by both the club leaders and the youth committee while judging record books. County Youth Council

Another 4-H year has come to an end, as another great one begins! As the new 4-H year begins our search begins for an active, en-ergetic, and enthusiastic group of County Youth Council members to represent the East Pottawattamie County 4-H program. County Youth Council consists of senior-level (grades 9-12) 4-H members, who have successfully completed their previous year of 4-H and are excited to get involved and share their 4-H passion throughout East Pottawattamie County. County Youth Council helps to create ideas and plan fun activities county wide. They help with National 4-H Week, Jamboree, summer day camps and county fair, just to name a few. If you are committed to the 4-H program and you enjoy planning, coming up with great ideas, or working with youth, the East Pottawattamie County Youth Council is a great opportunity for you to grow your leadership experiences. The CYC normally meets once a month, September through July, and helps to plan county wide activities. By being an active member of the County Youth Council you will not only grow your leadership skills but also strengthen your friendships and build networks for the future. East Pottawattamie County Youth Council applications are due to the Extension Office by 5:00pm on September 12, 2019. In addition to your application, a one page resume, a signed requirement form, reenrollment on 4-H Online will also be due. No late applications will be accepted. A required Welcome Day will be held on Sunday, September 15th at 4:00pm at the Extension Office.

4-H Week Window Displays

Help us celebrate 4-H week and spread the word about 4-H by decorating a local business window Business windows should be fully decorated and on display from 10:00am Sunday, October 6—8:00pm on Saturday, October 12. Judging will take place anytime during hours of display—10:00am Sunday, October 6—8:00pm on Saturday, October 12, so make sure it stays up the entire time! Once your club has decided which business window you plan to decorate, please let Hallie know so window judging can be planned out! One 4-H club winner will be chosen and one Clover Kids club winner will be chosen and announced on our Facebook page and in the November 4-H newsletter. Winning clubs will receive a fun 4-H surprise! Pancake Feed & Jamboree

East Pottawattamie County 4-H presents The Pancake Feed on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the Oakland Community Center from 11:30am—1:30pm with Jamboree to follow at 1:30pm. Free will donations will fund East Pottawattamie 4-H Clubs. We are asking for the help from 4-H families and clubs to make this happen! We are asking for 2 adults from each club to sign up for a shift to help in the kitchen making pancakes and sausage. We will have two shifts throughout the day—11:30am—12:30pm and 12:30pm—1:30pm with 5 adults per shift. These adults will be making pancakes and cooking sausage! Adults may begin signing up online—Pancake Feed Adult Sign Up. We will be asking for youth from each club to help serve and pick up plates; please wear your 4-H shirts during your shift and then stay for Jamboree!

4-H Youth Committee

Get involved in the East Pottawattamie County 4-H Youth Committee!

The East Pottawattamie County 4-H Youth Committee’s purpose is to develop and implement a balanced 4-H youth program that supports the mission of the Iowa 4-H Youth and Development Program for East Pottawattamie County.

The 4-H Youth Committee will consist of a leader/parent and member from each 4-H club and 2 at-large members with a one year term. 1 adult and 1 youth from each club should be nominated to serve on the committee to represent your club. Meetings will be held at the East Pottawattamie County Extension Office quarterly at 7:00pm on the second Wednesday of the month, or as sched-uled by committee members. 4-H Youth Committee members will be expected to serve on smaller sub committees within to work on recruiting 4-H members, 4-H record books, county wide activities and 4-H programming. Clubs will be nominating their adult and youth at your next club meetings and submitting names to Hallie by November 1, 2019. The 4-H Youth Committee will meet for the first time on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 7:00pm at the Extension Office. See you then!!
