SRE in the UK
• Sex and relationship education (SRE) is compulsory from age 11 onwards (National Curriculum)
• Rationale– Importance of learning about reproduction, human
relationships and sexual health.• SRE doesn’t promote early sexual activity or any particular sexual
orientation.
– In the UK, some parts of sex and relationship education are compulsory - these are part of the national curriculum for science. Parents can withdraw their children from other parts of sex and relationship education if they want.

PBS/IPC Curriculum overview
• In Science:– How male and female bodies grow and develop– About the changes that take place during puberty for boys and girls– How humans reproduce– How a baby develops inside its mother– About different methods of contraception
• In Society:– About different types of relationship– About the personal and social factors that can influence our lifestyle decisions– About love and what it means to different relationships
• In International:– About different views that some cultures and countries have about growing up
