Day 1

Better Than Gold and Silver

The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver. Psalms 119:72

The Psalmist says that the law of God is more valuable than gold or silver! It has more value thanmoney, possessions, or anything on this earth. The law or Word of God has the power to changelives! It shows us the path to eternal life. It gives us practical truth for everyday living as well astelling us what is going to happen in the future. It is God-breathed and inspired. The Word of Godis of the utmost value!

What value do we put on the law of God or the Word of God? Do we think that it is only a book ofhelpful suggestions that God has for us? Do we believe that His word is a motivation book tomake our lives better, or do we think that God’s word is worth more than everything that wepossess? Do we believe that God’s word is worth more than thousands of dollars or stacks of goldand silver? Do we think that the Bible is only a beautiful decoration for our coffee table? Whatvalue do we put on the law and the Word of God? Do you have a love for the Word of God in yourlife? Do you value God's word?

Day 2

Days as Grass

As for man, his days are as grass: As a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. 16 For thewind passeth over it, and it is gone; And the place thereof shall know it no more. Psalms103:15-16

The Psalmist says that the law of God is more valuable than gold or silver! It has more value thanmoney, possessions, or anything on this earth. The law or Word of God has the power to changelives! It shows us the path to eternal life. It gives us practical truth for everyday living as well astelling us what is going to happen in the future. It is God-breathed and inspired. The Word of Godis of the utmost value!

The Bible says that our life is short. It compares it to grass or a flower that springs up quickly, butbefore long is gone. When I was a boy, my family had a bird feeder. Often, some of the bird feedwould fall out of the feeder. If the weather was warm and there was sunshine, some of the seedsin the bird feed would sprout. They would shoot up in a day or two but would soon die off. Ourlife is like those spouts. It only lasts for a little bit. In comparison to eternity, our lives are very,very short.

Our Refuge

Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: For my soul trusteth in thee: Yea, inthe shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, Until these calamities be overpast Psalms 57:1

God is our refuge. We can rest in Him no matter what we are going through He will be there forus. We can trust in Him no matter the trial or struggle that we are in. God will be there for us. Thisverse gives us the illustration of a baby bird who finds protection under the wings of its parents ora baby chick running to be under the wings of its mother. God is our refuge and in him we will findprotection.

Are you looking to God to find your refuge? Where do you go when you are going through trials?Only in God will you find the refuge you need. No person or thing can help you like our God. Areyou dealing with difficulties in your life? Are you going through trials? Go to God and you will findyour refuge!

Where do you go when you are dealing with trials in your life?

Is God your refuge, your hiding place, your stronghold, your shepherd, yourcounselor, your friend, your redeemer, your saviour, your guide? If He is, youdon't need to search any further for security.

Cast Your Burden on Him

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer therighteous to be moved. Psalms 55:22

Our God is powerful and mighty. He can sustain us and care for us. While we are weak, he isstrong. God created and made us. He is all-powerful and will care for his children if we give ourburdens to him.

In the New Testament, it says to cast our cares on Him. In this verse, it tells us to give our burdensto the Lord! What is your burden? Are you trying to do everything on your own? Are you tooproud to give your cares to God? What is that load you are trying to carry on your own? Give it toJesus! He will take it for you!

Day 5

As the Deer

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, So panteth my soul after thee, O God. Psalms 42:1

Our one desire should be to know God. This verse gives us a vivid picture of this. The Psalmistcompares his passion for God to a deer that needs water. This deer will do anything to get to thewater because it will die without it. It will walk for miles to get to a stream or pond. It has to havewater to live, and so it will give anything to get it.

Our desire to know God should be like that of a deer searching for water. We should have a desireto know God and learn more about Him. Do we have a passion for knowing God in our lives? Will Igive anything to be close to God? Are will searching and seeking God as we should?

Do you desire to know God and grow in your relationship with Him?

Day 6

Consider the Poor

Blessed is he that considereth the poor: The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.Psalms 41:1

The Bible says that whoever considers the poor will be blessed. It means that we should be willingto think of others besides ourselves. Many times in our pride, we only worry about ourselves. Weare not looking for ways to serve others. Jesus came to this earth to serve and give his life forothers. We should follow his example.

We should consider and think about others who do not have as much as us. We should help thespiritually poor as well as the physically poor. Some people might not be wealthy but they will goto heaven when they die. Other people might be wealthy, but they do not have Jesus. We need toconsider and help the poor physically and spiritually. We should remember that much of theworld does not have Jesus and are very spiritually poor.

Are you considering and helping the poor around you?

God is Good

O taste and see that the Lord is good: Blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalms 34:8

The Bible says to taste and see if the Lord is good. The Psalmist is telling us to try God and see ifHe is good. It is just like someone offering you to try a dish that they had made. The Bible istelling us to seek God and see if He is good. God is good, but many times people do not try Him.They don't turn to Him and his word. They look to other places but do not seek God.

We need to be willing to try God because He is good! Do you run to God during challengingtimes? Are you growing in your relationship with Him? Have you tried God, or are you looking tofind satisfaction in other places? Go to God with your problems and trials. You will find that he isgood!

Day 8

We are Worms

How much less man, that is a worm? And the son of man, which is a worm? Job 25:6

This Bible verse compares us to worms. That might seem insulting and offensive, however, thetruth is that we are nobodies. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We want tothink that we are better than a worm, but compared to God, that is who we are. We are nobodieswho have sinned against God. We have messed up. We are helpless without God.

We need to realize who we are. We need to recognize that without God, we are nothing! Weshould learn to depend on God. We should learn humility and be thankful for every day that Godhas given us.

Day 9

Swifter than a Shuttle

My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, And are spent without hope. O rememberthat my life is wind: Mine eye shall no more see good Job 7:6-7

Job understands that life is short! He compares life to a weaver's shuttle and to wind. In Job's time,people used to weave cloth by hand. They would use a shuttle to help them weave. After years ofexperience, many of the weavers were able to do their tasks with amazing speed. Their shuttleswould fly in and out of the cloth. Job realizes that his life is moving quickly and says that life is likethe wind. It is there one moment and gone one moment.

We need to remember that life is short and we only have one shot at living it so we shouldprobably live it for Jesus! Are you numbering your days? Are you living for eternal things? Whatare you doing with your life?

Day 10

God Gives and Takes Away

But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shallwe receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Jobsin with his lips. Job 2:10

Job had the right attitude! His wife was mad and angry and told him to curse and get mad at God,but Job does not. God allowed Job to be afflicted with a terrible sickness, to have his possessionsto be taken and destroyed, and his family to be killed. All of this happened to Job, and he stillloved God. He still did not get angry at God. He always believed that God was good. He knew thatGod gives and that God takes away. Job held everything in an open hand. He was not angry whenGod took it from him.

What a great example Job was! We need to have the same attitude as him in our lives. We shouldrealize that everything we have is from God. We shouldn't allow the circumstances of our life tochange our view of God. God is just as good when we have a lot as when we have a little.

Day 11

For Such a Time as This

For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement anddeliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall bedestroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time asthis? Esther 4:14

There had been a decree passed against the Jews. They were to be attacked and destroyed.However, God had put someone in a position to change this decree. He had placed Esther in thepalace. Mordecai is telling Esther that it was her time to act. He told her that God was going todeliver, but she had to be willing to act and step out in faith.

Many times God puts us in positions to do something for him, but we have to be willing to act andtrust Him. We have to be ready to step out in faith. We must be willing to obey God and do theright thing, no matter the cost!

Are you willing to obey God no matter what it cost you?

He Made Everything

Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with alltheir host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, andthou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee. Nehemiah 9:6

God made everything. He made space, the sky, the earth, and everything that is within! He madethe animals and birds. He made the insects and the fish. God made everything! He is the one thatpreserves and keeps them. Our God is worthy to be served! He is higher and more powerful thanwe will ever know!

We need to remember who God is! If he is powerful enough to create the world, He is powerfulenough to take care of us. We have a powerful God! We need to rely on Him more and ourselvesless.

Have you realized how powerful God is?

God dwells in His creation and is everywhere indivisibly present in all Hisworks. He is transcendent above all His works even while He is immanentwithin them.

Day 13

Search, Do, and Teach

For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach inIsrael statutes and judgments. Ezra 7:10

I think Ezra gives us a great example of how we should approach the Word of God. He sought theword, applied the word, and then taught the word. The teaching of the Word of God that we doshould be an overflow of searching the word and our hearts.

We must, first of all, look or search out the Word of God. You will not learn anything until youspend time in God's word. Secondly, you must then seek to apply the word. You must strive toobey what you have learned. Thirdly, after you have done the first two then you can teach theword. I need to make sure that I am seeking and doing God's word before I teach it.

Are you spending time learning from the Word of God?

Pure Words

The words of the Lord are pure words: As silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, Thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. Psalms12:6-7

God's words are pure and perfect. They are without fault, holy, and inspired. The Bible comparesthem to silver that has been purified seven times. After mining silver and removing it from theground, it is often mixed with impurities, so it must be purified. People take the silver and melt itdown. They will then remove the contaminants and let it cool. If they repeat this process seventimes, the silver will be very pure.

The Bible tells us that the word of God is pure and perfect, like silver purified seven times. TheWord of God is perfect. We can know that His book is without errors. We should trust what Godhas to say!

Do you trust the Word of God and obey it?

While many have doubted the accuracy of the Bible, time and continuedresearch have consistently demonstrated that the Word of God is betterinformed than its critics. In fact, while thousands of finds from the ancientworld support in broad outline and often in detail the biblical picture, not oneincontrovertible find has ever contradicted the Bible.

Number Our Days

So teach us to number our days, That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalms 90:12

We should number my days! The Psalmist knows that it is essential for us to realize that we onlyhave a short time on this earth. We should count our days to help us recognize what is importantin our lives.

There are approximately 25,567 days in seventy years. It might be a good idea to subtract yourage in days from this number to figure out how many days we have left if you live to be seventy.You can click here to figure out your age in days. We need to use every single day to serve God.Many times we forget that our days are limited, and that is why we live the way that we do. Wethink that we have plenty of time, but we do not. We need to realize that time is running out, andwe only have a little time on this earth.

Day 16

We All Have a PartFor who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to thebattle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike. 1 Samuel 30:24

David and his men's village was raided. Enemies had come in while they were away and had takeneverything. They had taken their families, animals, and possessions. David and his men hadexhausted themselves following these men and finally had caught up to the enemies. They wentout and defeated them, and God gave them a great victory. However, two hundred men hadstayed behind. They were too tired to fight and had stayed behind to guard the baggage. The menwho fought did not want to share their spoils with the men who had stayed behind. However,David said that they were supposed to divide the spoils evenly among the men no matter whattheir part was.

I believe that we can learn something from this. We are not all called to do the same thing in thework of God, but we all have a part. Some might be missionaries, and others might help sendmissionaries. God wants all of us to be serving Him, but this does not mean that we will all be inthe same ministry. We should all be looking to find our part in serving God.

Obey

Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voiceof the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to hearken than the fat oframs. 1 Samuel 15:22

God gave Saul clear instructions about what he was supposed to do, but Saul thought that he hada better plan. He thought that he could get around God and go his own way. He would make uphis disobedience with sacrifices. He would offer God something so that he could do what hewanted.

However, God wants total love and obedience more than anything else. He wants us to care aboutHim. He wants us to obey Him even if we think that we have a better plan. We must trust thatGod knows best!

Are you living a life of obedience?

“No one can say yes to God's ways who has said no to his promises andcommandments. Acceptance of the will of God comes in the daily submissionunder his Word.”

Day 18

God is With Us

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, heit is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Deuteronomy 31:6

Some of Moses's last words were to be strong and of good courage. He told the Israelites thatthey should not be afraid because God was on their side. Their God was with them. They did nothave fear or be afraid because they had the one true God on their side!

We should remember this in our lives! If you are a child of God, then God is on your side. He willbe with you. He will not forsake you. We should not live in fear or doubt because we know thatGod is on our side. He will care for us.

Day 19

God Hears Prayer

And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of thehand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for myservant David’s sake. 2 Kings 20:6

God had told Hezekiah that he was a dead man. He was not going to live and was going to die.Like most of us, Hezekiah did not want to die. He goes and begs God to give him longer to live.God says yes! God hears his prayer and gives him more time to live. We have a God that hears andanswers our prayers!

It is incredible to see that God hears prayers and cares for us. We should spend time talking withHim. We should take our needs and cares to him. We have a God that is alive and cares for us. Weneed to ask and trust Him more.

Day 20

Giving Your All

And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times;then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria butthrice. 2 Kings 13:19

The man of God was angry because the king did not put a whole lot of effort. The king struck theground a few times but not as many as he could have. He was halfhearted. He did not give it hisall.

God wants us to give our all! He doesn't want us just to do the status quo but wants our full effort!He doesn't want us to do a little and then quit. We should be serving God as much as we possiblycan! God wants us to put 100% into life.

Day 21

Don't Keep it to Yourself

Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and wehold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: nowtherefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household 2 Kings 7:9

Four lepers were starving in a besieged city, and they decided to surrender themselves to theenemy and ask for food. However, upon arriving at the enemy camp, they found that the enemyhad fled. They began to gorge themselves on the food left behind. In this verse, we see that theyrealized that they shouldn't keep the food that they found from the starving city. They realizedthat they needed to tell others.

I think this is an excellent example of what we should be doing in our lives with the Gospel. Weare blessed to have this Gospel, but we should not just keep it to ourselves. We should take it tothe world! We should share the wonderful news of Jesus with others!

God is Our Rock And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; 2 Samuel 22:2

David knew where to find refuge. He knew where he could find strength and where he could casthis cares. The Lord was his Rock. He knew the Lord cared for him. He knew that he could go to theLord at any time.

Do we realize that the Lord is our rock? We can find our identity in Him. We can go to him intimes of trouble. He will always care for us. He is our fortress in trials, and we can rest in Him.

Is the Lord your rock?

The Bible tells us that God will meet all our needs. He feeds the birds of theair and clothes the grass with the splendor of lilies. How much more, then, willHe care for us, who are made in His image? Our only concern is to obey theheavenly Father and leave the consequences to Him.

Care for Others

And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindnessof God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame onhis feet. 2 Samuel 9:3

David was always looking to help others. Saul was the king that tried to kill him and take his life,but David wanted to help Saul’s family. He wanted to be a blessing. He was thinking about othersand not focused on himself.

We should be looking for ways to help others and care for them. We should start caring moreabout others. It is easy to just think about ourselves and forget about others, but we shouldremember the example that Jesus gave us when he washed the feet of his disciples. We are hereto serve others.

Day 24

Purposing to do Right

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of theking’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince ofthe eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8

Daniel did not live off of emotions. He lived off of purpose. He knew what he was supposed to doand was going to do it no matter the cost. He was a man of principle and was going to dowhatever it took to do what was right.

We should be like Daniel and live a life based on principle. Many times we only do what we feellike doing or want to do. However, we should be like Daniel and purpose to do the right thing. Weshould do what is right no matter the cost.

Are you willing to do the right thing no matter the cost?

Character is doing the right thing when nobody's looking. There are too manypeople who think that the only thing that's right is to get by, and the only thingthat's wrong is to get caught.

Don't Follow Your Heart

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?Jeremiah 17:9

The Bible tells us something utterly contrary to culture. The Bible tells us that our heart isdesperately wicked. Culture tells us that we are supposed to follow our hearts, and that is how wewill find satisfaction and fulfillment. The Bible tells us something different. It tells us that ourhearts will lead us astray and that God knows what is best

Our hearts are deceitful and will lead us astray. They will not help us make the right decisions.They are wicked, and we should not listen to them. Let’s not follow our hearts but the Word ofGod!

Trust the Lord Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. 8 For he shallbe as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, andshall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful inthe year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

In this verse, we can see a man who trusts in God! The Bible says that this man is like the treeplanted beside a river. Other trees might have to go through periods of drought and struggle, butnot this tree. Heat or drought will not phase it because it is beside a river and will always haveplenty of water. We can see a picture of our lives here. If we are trusting in the Lord because hewill always provide for us!

We need to trust in our God more. We should realize that he can care for us. We need to stopworrying and living in fear. We will be cared for and protected. We can trust in Him.

Don't Trust in Man

Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm,and whose heart departeth from the Lord. 6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert,and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in thewilderness, a salt land and not inhabited. Jeremiah 17:5-6

The Bible tells us that if we are trusting in man, then we will be cursed. The Bible gives us anillustration of a bush in the desert. Heath means a juniper shrub or bush. It is not going to thriveoff of the barren and waterless land. It will be stunted and small. That is what will happen to us ifwe trust in man.

If we trust in our strength or some other person, then we are not wise. We should trust in God overman. It is easy to think that we know best, but that is false. God always knows best.

Jesus Took Our Place

But he was pwounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: Thechastisement of our peace was upon him; And swith his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

There is a consequence for sin! There must be a punishment for sin. If we have sinned, then wemust be punished for our sins. However, Jesus took our punishment! He took our sins and borethe wrath of God for them. He died in our place and took the consequences of sin for us!

Jesus died to save me, and we should live for Him! We should remember that he was the one toset us free! He was the one that gave us new life! What a wonderful God we have!

Are you thankful for what Jesus did on the Cross for you?

How Beautiful

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, thatpublisheth peace; That bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; Thatsaith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! Isaiah 52:7

This verse tells how wonderful it is to take the Gospel to others. It is beautiful and marvelouswhen we share the good news of Jesus with others. The book of Romans quotes this verse andshow us how it is talking about taking the good news of salvation to the world.

We should be looking for ways to share the Gospel with others in our lives! We should always betrying to tell others about Jesus and his work on the cross.

How are you taking the Gospel to others?

Heart Worship

In this verse, God was looking down from heaven on the Israelites, and he saw that they were onlyworshiping Him outwardly and not from the heart. It looked like they loved God from what theysaid, but in their hearts, they did not care. They were only worshiping him outwardly and notinwardly.

We should love and worship God from the heart and not just outwardly. We need to make surethat we have heart worship and not just lip worship. Are we worshiping God with our lives or justgoing through the motions?

Are you worshiping God from the heart?
