Growing and AgingBy Ana Thor

After moving away from home, I have a different relation-ship with my parents. This distance has been my companion to grow and notice my parents aging more so than seeing them everyday. I started to grow more aware of their quirks, sadness, and amusement that can be seen in their everyday manor. We usually overlook what is natural because it is the unnatural that tends to catch our eye. I photograph my parents as more of an outsider than as a daughter. Their daily activities and hobbies bring out true character and depth that is not as easily seen to those who are close in their lives. In my images I wanted to cap-ture the interesting personality of my characters in doing what is ordinary. The comedic expressions that I once rolled my eyes at are now evident to me as a shield to block the depressions that come with growing and aging.
