encrypted using digital certificates and public-key/private-key exchanges

• With S/MIME v3 you can guarantee end-to-end security of email

GroupWise 6:Improved Reliability

•Increased database stability

•“Cluster awareness” of agents

•GroupWise TSA for Backup– Ensures that databases are backed up

“cleanly,” even when open or being written to– GroupWise Smart Purge ensures messages are

not purged until they’ve been backed up

•GroupWise Restore Agent– Perform user- or item-level restoration to the

master system (note that this does first require a full restore offline)

GroupWise 6:Improved Manageability

•Agent console access via WAP and HTML•Critical event notification to cellphone or pager•Message size limitation •Mailbox size limitation •Single-point adminstration in ConsoleOne•100% faster user moves, with no “gotchas”•Multi-threaded GWCheck

User Productivity Enhancing Features

• integrated instant messaging– secure, open standards-based and policy-

based – administrators can set policies to log instant

messaging communications system-wide, by individual users, or by multiple users

Wireless Access

from from ANY ANY WAP-WAP-enabled deviceenabled device

User Productivity Enhancing Features

• mobile communication– Support for Palm and Pocket PC*.

– Nexic offers GroupWise-specific clients for the Palm OS* and the Pocket PC.

– Support for two-way access to Blackberry* devices from Research In Motion Limited (RIM) and to Synch ML devices.

– Jarna and Consilient offer solutions for connecting RIM devices into GroupWise.

– Toffa offers its Synch ML gateway for GroupWise that allows devices such as the new Nokia* and Ericsson* phones to synchronize with GroupWise.

User Productivity Enhancing Features

• greater user control over information – Free-form Internet Addressing

– previously, formats available were limited to selections that are generated from the user's first and last name or GroupWise userID

» (for example, first initial.last name or first name.last name).

– now, a free-format address for a user can be any alphanumeric string.– alerts administrators if a new user being added would be assigned the

same e-mail address as another user already on the system» permits the administrator to employ a different format for the new user to

avoid address duplication.

– a new set of "disallow" bits» administrators can easily disable address formats that they either do not want

or formats that could result in address collisions or ambiguity.

User Productivity Enhancing Features

• enhanced tools to manage day-to-day workload– Enhanced User Interface

– Menus, screens and icons are easy-to-use, look familiar and are placed where users intuitively expect to find them.

– divide messages into color-coded categories– checklist folder

» Any item that is dragged into this folder immediately acquires check box task properties, including a check-box, enabling users to determine at-a-glance what items have been completed and what items are still pending.

– permits users to add their own heading to the subject of any received message for greater clarity—without changing the original subject.

» if the user later replies to the message, it will go out with the original subject intact.

• Contact Management– basic contact management features– record contact history, – record custom contact information, – annotate and categorize contacts. – insert user-defined fields to be included with

contact information. – new and clearer printed formats for contact

information

User Productivity Enhancing Features

• Enhanced Web Access– Now supports the Apache Web Server for NetWare on

NetWare 6.– Single Sign-On (Trusted Server) support.

– can be configured to support Single Sign-On on trusted servers.

– Document viewing and opening options. – open documents in their native applications without

first saving them to the local drive.

– SSL connections between the WebAccess Agent and Post Offices.

User Productivity Enhancing Features

• Enhanced Web Access cont’d– Session cookie support on a per-template-

set basis. – Session cookies tie the session to a particular

browser and ensure that the WebAccess Application will accept session requests only from that browser.

– WebAccess data caching on a per-template-set basis.

– enable or disable caching of WebAccess data on proxy servers.

User Productivity Enhancing Features

• Enhanced Web Access cont’d– Send options.

– Users can specify Classification, Priority, Reply Requested, and Return Notification options on sent items.

– Find. – Users can do a full-text search on the items in their boxes. – can search the From or To/CC fields. – can select the item types they want to search, the Item Source,

and the folders they want to search.

– Enhanced Item Properties.

Greater Threat Protection

• secure instant messaging• enhanced antivirus

– uses Trusted Application technology– can make the entire message store available to antivirus software

allowing the software to search the message store for new and previously undetected viruses.

– provides a way to clean the entire system of viruses even if there is a new class of virus that was able to make it past the e-mail virus scanning engine and into the message store.

Greater Threat Protection

• enhanced spam filtering– provides several layers of tools– GWIA can subscribe to RBLs– integrates with Novell partner spam blocker products that protect

incoming traffic at the border. – GWAVA*, IronMail, MimeSweeper* and RAV – based on such criteria as origination DNS, word triggers and

attachment extensions.

– provides client controls that allow users to set their own level of anti-spam based on a variety of criteria.

• can secure, with SSL, the entire transport chain, all the way from the sending GroupWise Client to the receiving GroupWise Client

Enhanced Access & Control

• fully searchable access to the message store – Trusted Agent Application definition & Trusted Agent

API – permit trusted applications to access the GroupWise

message store without having to authenticate to each individual user mailbox.

– Working with Novell partner products such as Nexic, for example, administrators can query the message store quickly and efficiently.

– Trusted applications can dredge the e-mail message store looking for criteria such as specific words, phrases or attachment types, and quickly find all stored e-mail messages relating to legally sensitive topics

Standards - LDAP

• LDAP pooling– allows users to authenticate from a pool of LDAP

servers. If one server is down, GroupWise seeks to authenticate from the next available server in a round-robin manner.

– The redundancy of resources provided by LDAP pooling enables organizations to take advantage of the high security of LDAP authentication without sacrificing availability or scalability

– permits load balancing across pooled servers to enhance performance.

Enhanced Administration Tools

• User Move Status Utility– enables administrators to track the status of accounts

being moved between post offices. – reports the status of each phase– If a failure occurs, the administrator can restart the last

phase– Allows restart of the entire move process– can also terminate an in-progress move– can configure the utility to filter status tracking information

by domain.

Enhanced Administration Tools

• Account Recovery Utility– recover user or resource accounts that have been

inadvertently deleted from the system. – once the account has been recovered, the

administrator can use the Backup/Restore Mailbox utility to restore the contents of the account mailbox from the backup system.

Enhanced Administration Tools

• Enhanced User and System Activity Monitoring– divide GroupWise agents into logical groups for

monitoring, – set thresholds and options by group.

– For example, the administrator can place all the GroupWise agents running on machines in the U.S. in a group called “USA” and set thresholds and options for that group. Previously, the administrator could only set thresholds and options for the entire list of agents.

– ability to suspend/resume the polling of GroupWise agents.

– Using this feature, the administrator can suppress unnecessary notifications, such as those generated during planned and known outages.

GW 6.5 Upgrade Process

The general steps to upgrade from GroupWise 5.x to GroupWise 6.5 are as follows:1. Install the ConsoleOne® snap-ins.2. Upgrade the primary domain.3. Upgrade the secondary domains.4. Upgrade the post offices.5. Upgrade the GroupWise DirXML driver (if one is present).6. Upgrade GroupWise WebAccess and GroupWise Internet Agent.7. Deploy the GroupWise 6.5 client. (The GroupWise Client for Windows can be

installed to users’ workstations by the user or by the system administrator. For centralized distribution via ZENworks®¨, the GroupWise 6.5 client is available in Application Object Template (AOT) format.)

8. Deploy GroupWise Monitor. This consists of two substeps:1. Install the Monitor Application. This extends NDS® schema to include application

objects and provider objects for GroupWise Monitor.2. Install the Monitor Agent.
