Transcript of Groups begin the week of Sunday January...

Community Groups meet together for longer than one year but shorter than two years. Community Groups allow participants to form deep relational

bonds that are steeped in discipleship. After a period of time, the Community

Group will multiply into two groups and make room for new participants.

Connection Groups meet together for one or two short studies. Individuals interested in small groups but not yet

ready to commit to a Community Group are usually more comfortable in

a Connection Group setting.

How do I sign up? For more information and to sign up for a group, turn to the back page in this book or

visit us online at www.chapinumc.com.

Groups begin the week of Sunday January 26th

What are small groups? Small groups are an opportunity for you to form authentic, Biblical relationships and experience life-giving discipleship. Small groups meet together throughout the week in homes or at church to study the Bible, pray for each other, and live life together. We have a variety of groups to ensure the right one exists for you. Why should I join a small group? Coming to church on Sunday mornings is an important part of the Christian life, but it isn’t the only part. Small groups let believers go beyond church, because Sunday mornings just aren’t enough.

What about childcare? CUMC offers partial reimbursement for childcare during small groups. Visit www.chapinumc.com for more information and to download our reimbursement forms.

Whether you have previous experience with Church, Christians, and the Bible, or none at all, this course is for you. Everyone is welcome - from the most sympathetic Sunday schooler to the convinced atheist. We’ll journey through the Gospel of Mark and discuss who Jesus is, why He came to earth, what He accomplished, why He died, and what it all means for us.

Monday

Study: Lord, Change My Attitude Facilitator: Jan Mayo, Laura Wilson, and Barbara Streeter Type: Connection Group (Open to all) Location: CUMC Room 215 Time: 6:30–8:30 PM Cost: $15.00 Description: What does God think about attitudes? This study uses examples from the Israelites' journey out of Egypt to how attitudes can affect whether someone stays in the wilderness or enjoys the blessings of the Promised Land. There is hope for the attitudinally challenged. (11 sessions) In this study, James MacDonald shows how you can lead others (and yourself) out of attitudes God hates and into those He honors, from: complaining to thankfulness; coveting to contentment; critical to love; doubting to full of faith; rebellion to submission.

Tuesday

Study: FastTrack – Genesis to Revelation Facilitator: Katie Blocker Type: Community Group (Space is Limited!!) Location: Blocker Residence Time: 6:30–8:30 PM Cost: $12.00 Description: Join our group of Frazzled Females as we balance work and family to make studying Scripture a priority! We’ll be studying FastTrack – Genesis to Revelation. FastTrack introduces you to the entire Bible through an 8-session discipleship experience using sight, sound, and action. We’ll discuss Genesis to Revelation with a comprehensive yet streamlined presentation of the biblical narrative that shows how all the puzzle pieces of the Bible fit together, and how everything connects back to Jesus.

Study: Lost in the Middle: Midlife and the Grace of God, by Paul Tripp Facilitator: Jeff and Becky McCormack Type: Connection Group (Open to all) Location: McCormack Residence Time: 6:30–8:30 PM Cost: $0.00 Description: The Bible never discusses midlife, just like it never discusses teenagers. Yet the Bible is able to unpack any of life's experiences because it was written by the One who made them all. Life on this side of glory is hard. You will face things in midlife that beat at the borders of your faith, but you do not have to be lost in the middle of your story. This time of life, which can seem like the end of many things, can actually welcome you to a brand new way of living. We all need to occasionally step back, slow down, and consider where we are going. Lost in the Middle will help you to do just that.

Monday

Study: SHAPE Facilitator: Barb Streeter Type: Connection Group (Open to all) Location: CUMC Room 215 Time: 6:30–8:30 PM Cost: $10.00 Description: Have you ever wondered what God was thinking when He created you? Do you feel like He has greater plans for you? Are you ready to know how God wants to use you for His glory? Wednesday

Study: Craig Groeschel Double-Feature Facilitator: Steve and Kim Houck Type: Connection Group (Open to all) Location: Houck Residence (Old Lexington) Time: 6:30–8:15 PM Cost: $15.00 per study Description: Join us for a double feature of Craig Groeschel studies! First we’ll study Pastor Groeschel’s book, “Altar Ego” followed by his book “Christian Atheist.” Altar Ego: You are NOT who you think you are. In fact, you need to take your idea of your own identity, lay it down on the altar, and sacrifice it. Give it to God. Offer it up. Why? Because you are who GOD says you are. And until you've sacrificed your broken concept of your identity, you won't become who you are meant to be in Christ. Christian Atheist: You say you believe in God. Do you really? Do you live your life as if God is in the room, or do you assume He’s not paying attention? You call yourself a Christian. Are you who you say you are?

Study: Believing God, by Beth Moore Facilitator: Sherill Painter Type: Connection Group (Open to all women) Location: CUMC Room 221 Time: 6:30–8:30 PM Cost: $16.00 Description: Do you take God at His word, believing what He has told us, or do you just believe in His existence and the salvation He offers? Come Experience a Fresh Explosion of Faith. What does it mean to believe God? Abraham and Moses believed God. This planted in them a seed of faith that grew into towering oaks of steadfast trust and belief. Hebrews 11 is full of other examples of bold belief. Beth Moore brings these characters to life in a way that will spring forth in you a fresh explosion of faith!

Study: The Wonderful Spirit Filled Life, by Charles Stanley Facilitator: Guy and MJ Sorrell Type: Connection Group (Open to all) Location: Sorrell Residence (The Village at Hilton) Time: 7:00–8:30 PM Cost: $14.00 Description: A big part of the Spirit-filled life is learning to recognize the fingerprint of the Holy Sprit. Once you know what to look for and once you begin looking for it, you will be amazed at how real the Holy Spirit will become to you. Learning to recognize the Holy Spirit is the first step in learning to live a Spirit-filled life!

Description: Let’s be honest….marriage is tough. This study challenges you to look into the mirror of God’s Word and see yourself with clarity. Maybe it’s you. Maybe you love yourself more than your spouse. Maybe you love your kingdom more than God’s Kingdom. When you reach that level of honesty, you’re at the edge of truly amazing things. Join us for a 10-session study meeting 2 to 3 times a month.
