GENDER ROLES IN POPULAR CULTURE
o Gender roles are not biologically determined, they are culturally produced.
o Gender inequalities result because women and men are socialized into different roles.
POPULAR CULTURE: Popular culture spreads of media or
technology and one of the most biggest concept is ‘gender’.
GENDER ROLES IN ADVERTISEMENTS:
Mr. Muscle advertisement is an example of gender stereotyping. It implies that the only job that really matters for a woman who is a mother, is to clean. This reinforces the ‘stereotype’ that women are viewed as a housewife.

The systematic inequalities suffered by women constitute discrimination.
Discrimination is based on misunderstandings and outmoded ways of thinking.
Besides, we are exposed to gender discrimination by developing technology and increase use of social media.
FOR EXAMPLE: Generally, super heros
are men. Generally, women
always expect to rescue.
GENDER DISCRIMINATION:
According to gender discrimination, men always have more power than women and women always need to men’s power. This perspective is ‘streotypes’.

GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN FILM INDUSTIRIES
There are streotypes and discrimination against to women in film industiries which are part of popular culture.
Women constitute half of the world population, with lines of characters in films account for only 30 percent.
New York Film Academy decided to examine women who have some part of film and they reported and saw that gender inequality is stuck in Hollywood.

discrimination emphasizes in New York fashion week and its called Marco Marco Show.
Models are selected from transgenders and they take to the catwalk.
We learn almost all transgender news in social media which is popular culture part.
For instance: Kim Kardashian’s father.
Based on popular culture involves social media and technology.
We learn all news from the social media. (e.g. gender, gender discrimination, gender role.)
TO CONCLUSİON
Same sex marriage is became legal in Canada, USA etc.
Gender roles and discrimination have negative and positive sides.According to negative sides, no longer gender role and discrimination more sharp than previous years.
However, there are also positive sides like LGBT comminity, same sex marriage etc.
