3GROUNDBREAKERS WOMEN IN LEADERSHIPA TOIGO INSTITUTE SUMMIT
We’re thrilled to culminate our 25th anniversary with a celebration of women by presenting an outstanding line-up of speakers and discussion leaders in our 2014 Groundbreakers program.
This year’s Groundbreakers agenda is focused on exploring key resources, tools and relationships to help you advance in your career—and in life. This includes identifying qualities, traits and skills that are within your reach and control, but may not be leveraged to their full advantage. Once again, you’ll be energized by the discussions on stage and in the room with the tremendous group of aspiring leaders, influencers, and trailblazers in
attendance. And, of course, this is the ideal forum for expanding your professional network.
Like you, we know there is a groundswell of conferences, dialogue, and thought leadership on women in leadership today. We’re proud to be part of that conversation and to produce Groundbreakers as a way for you to reflect on your career, your values and your aspirations, and to be inspired. Like other well-respected organizations, it is important for Toigo to drive engaging and relevant dialogue and set the stage for next generation leaders who will follow in the footsteps of the Groundbreakers we present today.
We offer a big thank you to Time Warner for inviting us to return to their lovely facility for this year’s event and to the many organizations and marketing partners that support Toigo’s programs and share our goal of promoting the leadership of women.
Enjoy the day. Stretch yourself, challenge your neighbor—and together we’ll break new ground.

Effective communication is a critical success factor when it comes to building strong and positive working relationships to achieve our desired professional outcomes. Yet many of us have difficulty communicating confidently without being labeled “aggressive”...particularly as women. Or conversely, in an effort to be collaborative, we can lose our voice and power. This interactive workshop will help you find the right balance and rhythm in your communication so that you can be both confident and collaborative in any situation.

Lucy Flores is a Nevada State Assemblywoman and former candidate for Lieutenant Governor in the November 2014 election.
The daughter of immigrants, Lucy grew up in a challenging community and experienced many hardships. Like many kids in Nevada, she fell through the cracks and eventually dropped out of high school, but through hard work and the investment of people who believed in her, she got her GED, enrolled in community college and eventually earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from USC.
From there, she worked her way through UNLV Law School and ran for office to represent the community she grew up in. Upon her election in 2010, Lucy joined three other Hispanic females in becoming the first Hispanic women to serve in the Nevada legislature. She was promoted to a leadership position prior to the start of the 2013 legislative session, serving as an Assistant Majority Whip and also serves as Vice-Chair of the Nevada Hispanic Legislative Caucus.
Lucy has successfully passed landmark legislation to improve the way young people are tested in high school, to protect consumers from predatory unauthorized practice of law, and to protect victims of domestic violence from their abusers.
Lucy doesn’t have the background of a typical politician, but she has experienced firsthand the difference making an investment in people can make. It is what inspired her into public service and it is what fueled her campaign for Lt. Governor.
