Jay- is one o the most success ulHip-Hop artists on the planet. Hispower is awesome and while it can

be argued that it isnt undeservedthere is de nitely room to talkabout whether this mans still aboutthe music.

Tracy Chapman is the sel -titleddebut album by Tracy Chapman, released on April 5, 1988 byElektra Records. This release was aremarkable achievement at the time,in that an acoustic singer-songwritercould grab the publics ear duringthe heyday of slick, synthesized pop.But possibly an even greater featwas that people were interestedin listening to what Chapman hadto say socially conscious political

and social commentary - and howshe said it. The impassioned liberalactivism and emotional resonancebrought her music to life, and evenyears later, with quiet eloquence andsmouldering outrage, her music isrelevant and compelling. This is due

Jay-Z is a man that means business.Unashamedly. His talent almostseems effortless. The album titleMagna Carta... Holy Grail is meant togenerate discussion (in short) aboutthe unseen puppeteers of the world. In a puzzling move this artist aboutthe underdog re-wrote the de nitionof leak via 5 million pingers out ofSamsungs chequebook, a move thatmade MCHGpre-release platinum.Smooth moves by a half-billionairewonder. This is a man unashamedlyabout business as much as music, two things he does well so what canyou do but just accept it? MusicallyMCHGis a ashy collaboration ofbig names Justin Timberlake, FrankOcean and wife Beyonce appear, asdoes Timbaland in the background. Its all the usual tricks and once youvebouldered through the openingtrack it plays out pleasingly businessas usual. It means business and forthe most part means music Jay Zreconnects with his muse.

to the timeless content of the songs, her sincerity, and the clean and sparseproduction of David Kershenbaumback in the 90s.

Chapmans digni ed and distinctivevoice continues to convey de ance inTalkin Bout A Revolution, longing inMountains O Things and resolve inFor My Lover. She proves herself anaccomplished storyteller via the quietdesolation of Fast Car and againwith Behind The Wall, providing adevastating account of domesticviolence sung a capella. The sonicsettings range from the percussiondriven Shes Got Her Ticket to thekeyboard accented Baby Can I Hold You.

While the multi-platinum success ofChapmans eponymous 1988 debutmight have been unexpected, itsan album thats had lasting impact. With themes of economic inequalityand the dreams of the downtroddenthat run through this stripped backalbum, Chapmans poetic sense makes

her work seem personal rather thanpreachy. Driven by simple melodiesand affecting lyrics Tracy Chapman remains an enduring triumph.

You cant ault Disney or pitchingThe Lone Ranger as Pirates o theCaribbean in the Wild West. Butwhile you can hold a bright candleto that comparison, Gore Verbinskisability to imitate the earnestenjoyment of its source material iswhat really shines through.

The familiar greed, land con scation, political corruption, and attemptedgenocide that come with screendepictions of American Natives vs.The White Man serve as backgroundfodder here. The real story comeswith Johnny Depps Tonto mouldingArmie Hammers goody-two-shoesJohn Reid into the hero he could be though he would have preferredhis brother Dan Reid. Its all book-ended by an older Tonto retellingthe adventure to a young-un anarrative device that could havebeen chopped off the two-and-a-halfhour running time.

    Johnny doesnt take his Jack

Sparrow shtick to new Depp-ths,but Hammer feeds off his anticsfar better than Orlando Bloom everdid. William Fichtner brings a greatcob of corn to his savage outlawButch, Helena Bonham Carter iseffectively distracting as a dolled-up professional dancer and TomWilkinson does a good Tom Wilkinsonimpression. Its too bad that Luther sRuth Wilson is underused as adistressed damsel involved a weirdincest-in-law romantic sub-plot.

The constant wackiness of The LoneRanger seems jarring in this modernage of frowny-faced blockbusters. Yetthe cheesy tone acts as momentumto justify the creative absurdity of itsnale, a dual train chase that featuresall manner of stunts that leantowards the right side of ridiculous. The result is an action sequence sovastly joyous that it nudges a three-star lm into four-star territory.

    SHIT WORTH plAyING

    DEADPOOLxbox 360/ps3

if , y , i y , . But that doesnt mean Im not happy to seeyou tickle your laughing box, then this is probably a game or you. Nicknamedthe merc with a mouth, Deadpool is undoubtedly Marvel comics most laugh-out-loud anti-hero character. While his attire and choice o arsenal lean towardvaliant vigilante savior, his actual demeanor is crude, juvenile and reckless. Withhilarious results.

In his own video game by High Moon Studios, there are plenty o great exampleso this. Such as the moment where Deadpool slowly sneaks up behind a guardwithout making a sound, only to pull out a machine gun and riddle his body withdea ening shots while screaming out STEALTH KILL SUCKER! Or perhaps themoment where Deadpool starts daydreaming about boobs, which mu es andblurs everything around you while the game is trying to tell you what the mainobjective is.

While the graphics certainly arent anything to change your pantaloons over, the game delivers in the right areas. The character animations, or instanceare spot on, giving Deadpool s acrobatic moves the per ect blend o goo y andlethal. Hes joined onscreen by a number o Marvel cameos, including Wolverine,Rogue, Psylocke and a personal avourite Domino (who doesnt get nearly enoughattention outside o the comics). The worst o the cast is Minister Sinister, whoails to ignite as a villain contender but is still awkwardly humourous. MeanwhileCable (and his generous man-boobs) steal the show as he attempts to workalongside the erratic and one-track-minded Deadpool .

High Moon Studios have injected just the right amount o crazy into this gameand ans o the comics will latch onto it immediately. Others however, might needto prepare themselves or one o the maddest gaming experiences theyve everencountered. I you all into this crowd, but enjoy combat-heavy third person

action games and have a sense o humour its certainly worth a rental. AsDeadpool would say, Prepare to bathe my monkeys!

    NEVERWINTERpc

t F r . Theyhave some o the most well regarded Role Playing Games (RPGs) under their belt, including Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale , both taking place within this particularDungeons & Dragons setting. The Realms also holds the title or hosting the frstgraphical MMORPG, Neverwinter Nights (the 1991 game, not the BioWare series). So with this kind o history and the markets current obsession with MMO games,it was only a matter o time be ore a new Realms game hit the scene.

Neverwinter (again, not related to the BioWare games) takes place some timea ter a volcanic eruption brought the eponymous city to the brink o destruction, and puts you in the role o one o many soldiers helping to rebuild and protectthe city rom those seeking to take advantage o the chaos. I you like yourMMOs with a healthy serving o lore, Neverwinter really delivers this is thebest example o a story-driven MMO Ive played. O course, i you just want tokill things and level up, skipping through all the quest text and cutscenes is anoption, as well.

Neverwinter eatures a dark, gritty aesthetic to go with its post-cataclysmicsetting, but in practice, it mostly just makes the game look somewhat dull. I willadmit that part o my distaste or Neverwinter s visuals is a subjective pre erenceor my persistent worlds to be bright and vibrant. Even i gritty is your thing, thisgame alls short due to an overall lack o variety between zones; once youvebeen to one grim orest, decrepit township, or torch-lit cave, youve been to all othem. Thats not to say that Neverwinter is necessarily a bad looking game.

Sadly, a lack o content and some o the games innovation backfring onNew Zealand connections makes it hard to recommend this over other, moreestablished games. On the other hand, i youre a dedicated Dungeons & Dragonsan or budding content developer, you might just fnd what youre looking orhere. Neverwinter also has a lot o potential; once it has had some time to fnd its

eet this could be a game worth taking another look at.
