Welcome to last month of the 2012!

Believe it or not, it’s already been eight months since we first started our journey together. As a division, we have successfully overcome ever obstacle and exceeded our goals. I just wanted to thank you, Grizzlies, for being the best division a Lieutenant Governor could ask for! Don’t forget CNH district’s goal of 46,000 members, 80,000 service hours, and 154,000 dollars for the Pediatric Trauma Program! It all leads up to one million reasons to serve and give back to your community. I am so grateful to be a part of such a large organization that gives so many opportunities. On an exciting note, are you ready to func-tion?! The highly anticipated division dance is coming to you in less than a month! For more information, keep reading!Thank you for all that you do,

Lieutenant Governor Justine Chang

Back in October, members woke up early and participated in Stockton’s first ever Walk to End Alzheimer’s Dis-ease. Many acted as cheerleaders, being spirited and cheering on peo-ple as they walked, while some were assigned to hand out water to the walkers. Others worked at the flower booths, where they sold flowers to the walkers and their families. Members from our club also volunteered at vari-ous harvest festivals throughout the Lincoln Unified School District, help-ing with managing game booths and selling food. This year, Lincoln had 41 members attend Fall Rally North, the most I have ever seen in my four years of being in Key Club. The members were all extremely spirited and excited for Fall Rally, and some of the boys even went shirtless to express their love for the division and our LTG! Overall, all the members from Lincoln had a fan-tastic and fun time at Fall Rally North!

As of November 2012, Bear Creek’s Key Club hasn’t had much opportunities this month for community service; however, we were involved in the local elementary school’s Harvest Festival at Creekside in celebration of Halloween. Here, mem-bers help set up game booths for the little kids to play with their family and other members helped pass out food such as hamburgers and hotdogs. Our help was much appreciated by all of the teachers who put together the event and they are looking forward to us volunteering again next year! At this festival, Key club had 17 members participating with a total of 50 hours! As well as the Harvest Festival event, Bear Creek also volunteered at the Health Fair last month at Franklin Highschool. Here, 29 of our school’s members attend-ed and help set up booths for the families that visited the Health Fair. After setting up these booths, members also involved themselves in games to keep the visitors entertained with prizes that improve one’s health such as eyeglasses, toothbrushes, etc. Overall, 119 hours of service was given by Bear Creek’s dedicated Key Club.

Hope you are all enjoying fall and are excited for winter! I know I won’t be hibernating through my favorite season though! MCHS had a grizzly-tastic time at Fall Rally North! We’d like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to our amazing Mama Bear, Justine Chang! You led us through an amazing and unforgettable experience! We got to meet many new people from other divisions, and Fall Rally really showed us what Key Club is all about: Service, Pride, Family, and SPIRIT! A few members have already created some cheers for next year that will help us get the Spirit Stick back to its rightful owner! Our club has collected $50 for UNICEF, and I’d like to give a shout-out to Miss Shelby Colisao for her amazing work and determination while carrying around her orange box! The past month was focused on aiding the YMCA Health Fair, St. Mary’s Interfaith Dining Room, St. Joe’s Half-Marathon, and fundraising for PTP by raffling off our board members and selling drinks at our school Halloween dance. Everyday, our club raises money by selling chips and water to our classmates. I hope everyone had a spectacular Key Club Week as well!! Let’s keep our spirit alive throughout the whole entire year!!! With the holi-days around the corner, we’re looking forward to volunteering at Lodi’s annual Fesitval of Trees and Christmas caroling with our Kiwanis family! Remember to always start your day with a smile, my fellow Grizzlies!

Hey Grizzlies! This past month SECA volunteered at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the St. Joseph’s 5k/Half-mar-athon, and still continuing with our bi-weekly Peyton Elementary tutoring. Our board of directors have been in the process of planning out all our fundraisers for the rest of the year, and we should have them finalized very soon. Other than that, we’re running along pretty smoothly. We want to thank the division for the super amazing time we had at Fall Rally!

Chavez members had a blast at Fall Rally. Many members were able to make new friends from the other clubs. We were very pleased with the koi fishes because they had been very friendly towards us. Although we were disappointed that we didn’t win the spirit stick we’re still happy to have participated in the last cheering ses-sion. Through Fall Festival we only made thirty-two dollars. It wasn’t much profit but we’re still glad to make money for our club fund. A few weeks ago our members vol-unteered to pick up trash at an elementary school. The school was extremely dirty but with the help of our members we were able to clean it up in a few hours. Dur-ing Thanksgiving we will be volunteering at our local Salvation Army. Last year a few people went and they had a great time. I enjoyed serving the families and seeing the smiles on their faces. It made me feel like I did something great for my community. Currently the officers and I are promoting the November DCM. Members who have heard about it are excited to play dodge ball. I cannot wait to meet the other mem-bers during the DCM!

For the past weeks, McNair volunteered at the Pink Oc-tober Survivor Fashion Show, Race for Awareness 5K Run/Walk, and Let’s Nail Breast Cancer at school. We had six members at the Pink October Fashion Show, twelve at the Race for Awareness 5K Run/Walk, and eighteen at the Let’s Nail Breast Cancer. In total, in the club earned ninety-three hours. The Let’s Nail Breast Cancer was once again incredible because we profit about one hundred and thirty dollars: all going to PTP and to breast cancer awareness. A future reference would be to make the event a two-day event. At the moment, the officers are still planning the Key Club Globber Run and we are looking into our Awake a thon for next year.

My friends and I all decided to volunteer with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Event. We were given these orange volunteer shirts, and many of us had different duties there. It was very well organized throughout the whole day. My friend Martin Caranza and I were cheering, handing out water, and making sure the participants were walking down the right pathway. It was good to see everyone walk by, smile, and get pumped up about making a difference for this cause. Some of my other friends that volunteered with me, like Michael Avelino, had to walk around and get people to sign up for newsletters about the cause, and others had to hand out flowers for the participants. In the end, we all went to the finish line to cheer all the walkers, and thanked them for doing such a wonderful thing. This was such a great experi-ence, and it was the first year the association was doing this! It had a really turnout and I’m glad we were able to help them make it a memorable one.

On the 13th and 20th of last month, I had the opportunity of volunteering at St. Mary’s Dining Hall. During these two service events, I washed and dried the pots, pans, and knives. Other key clubbers and I later cleaned the windows until they were spot-less, and we served food to the less fortu-nate. It was really rewarding for me person-ally because whenever I served food and picked up empty trays, people would smile and kindly say, “Thank You” with a smile on their face. Helping the less fortunate made me feel like I was really doing something to help my community. There are a lot of people out who go to St Mary’s Dining Hall, and the place can get really overwhelmed. They needed all the help they could get, so the many key clubbers and I were an extra group of helping hands doing our Key Club duty. Overall, this was a very fun and fulfill-ing experience.

I volunteered at the St. Joseph’s Half-Marathon on October 21. It was designed to help the Boots to Books scholarship program at San Joaquin Delta College. To support this event, I signed up to be a volunteer from Key Club and cheered on the racers as they ran past us. The volunteers ben-efited the event because we showed how much we cared about the com-munity and our schools. I can’t tell you how amazing my experience was. As I cheered everyone on, they smiled and thanked me. It felt nice to have someone thank you and appreciate what you’re doing for them. When-ever I heard a “thank you” or saw a smile, I felt warm inside and would smile back. This is why I love Key Club so much! They bring up events that let you help out with the community and when we volunteer, we have fun while getting to know people who might help you in the future. Thank you, Key Club!

On October 21, 2012 I volunteered to help aid the St. Joseph’s 5K and half marathon run along with a few other members from SECA Key Club. Positioned at the finish line, our job was to greet the runners as they finished and present them with a congratulatory medal for par-ticipating. I was surprised to see the im-mense amount of participants that took time out of their day to help raise money for the Boots to Books program at Delta College. Although the event went over the scheduled time and forced us to stay a bit longer, the sheer emotions and happiness of the runners as they finished made the extra time worth it. I am grate-ful for being given the opportunity to help raise money for a good cause, and hope to participate in more events such as this in the near future.

At the night of October 15th, Ronald E. McNair’s Key Club had 7 volunteers at the Wine and Rose Pink October Survivor Fashion Show. During this event, we helped support the event by taking our time to sell raffle tickets, accommodate guests, and aid the photo booth. In return, we were nicely accom-modated by the event organizers who generously provided us with a scrumptious dinner. By the end of the event, all of us helped with determining the raffle prize winners and telling silent auction winners about their accomplishment. Lastly, we passed out the raffle prizes after the program ended.
