GRIP-O-STYLE

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS• The glazed curtain wall has been tested in compliance with performanceprocedures according to UNI-EN 42 (air permeability), UNIEN 86 (water tightness), UNI-EN 77 (wind resistance).According to UNI-EN 7979 the performance classification is as follows:

Air permeability A3 Class Water tightness E4 Class Wind resistance V3 Class

Homologation in compliance to new European regulations are in progress.

• Acoustic insulation of the standard glazed elements is more than 35 dB (500 Hz ISO R 717) with possibility of reaching higher performances by inserting adequate packages and components.

• The average thermal insulation of the glass wall is to be evaluated considering the dimensions and performances of the glazed and of the spandrel panels. The efficient thermal protection offered by this system is based on the choice of adequate glass and spandrel panels, and the possible use of thermal break profiles.• The installation of the whole glass wall, or the replacement of cells in case of necessity, can be completely executed from the inside, without need of scaffolding and outside structures.

• The grid of the curtain wall is composed of independent elements not rigidly bound: thermal expansions of the profiles are limited to the individual inter axis and the shifting movements between components take place on self-lubricating material. The metal hooking components, both for the structure and the flashings, dilate on anti-friction material.

• This system is provided of components and materials specially designed to reduce thermal expansions and contact between different materials.

• All leafs (glazed and spandrels) are hung up with the possibility of being openable according to customer or design requests. In fact SOMEC’s GRIP-O-STYLE series offers maximum flexibility not only during design phase, but even after the installation, in case of new functional requirements or variation of the building utilization.Without interruption of the daily working activities taking place inside the building, without need of complex supporting structures or scaffolding, this series allows a simple intervention just by substituting some accessories, with cost and time saving.

• In the presence of particularly severe temperatures, it is possible to use the thermal break profile to reduce the thermal bridges between the interfaces.

• Joining between transom and mullion is carried out by means of special aluminium sleeves equipped with stainless steel pins, soft pvc pad and nylon anti-friction sliding blocks. During installation phase, the insertion of the accessory in the mullion profile with its introduction in the arranged holes, is based on a quick expulsion mechanism of the pin executed with a special tool.

• All the supports are suitable to bear loads of beyond 100 kgs.

• The external perimeter finishing stampings between the curtain wall and the masonry can be manufactured with different solutions and colours, according to the project requirements, completed with insulation materials.

• The flashing joints are equipped with internal or external core adequatelysealed and arranged as for their free expansion.• The intermediate floor fireproof barrier is realized with fire resistant metal sheets and with the insertion of fire retardant materials, duly certified.

ACCESSORIES• Outwards openings of GRIP-O-GLASS range are equipped with friction limiting arms which allow adjustment of the opening as required, with the only limitations due to leaf dimensions (height and width) and weight.

• The patented opening system avoids the end of run counter stroke and is tested at 10.000 opening cycles, according to standards in force. SOMEC has executed further opening-closing tests up to 30.000 cycles at important qualified laboratories.

• In the GRIP-O-STYLE series it is possible to insert both doors and outward openings, by using pivoted hinges installed in the 12 mm gap between two adjacent glasses. This solution suits perfectly to realize anti-panic doors, secondary doors, doors leading to balconies and inside courtyards, but also for inspections to technical rooms.

• Brackets are made of hot dipped galvanized steel or other suitable materials (stainless steels, light alloys, etc.) and enable the adjustment of shifting due to the out of plumb-line of the building on the three orthogonal planes.

• There are several bracketing and anchoring solutions available to the main building structure, with possibility of fixing to the slab front area, to the floor or ceiling, following to site requirements and application characteristics.

• All anchorages are equipped with a safety steel pin.

ALUMINIUMProfiles are made of 6060 T5 aluminium alloy following UNI EN 573-3 and UNI EN 755-2 European standards.

Surface treatment of profiles and of internal finishing will be powder coat, enamel, anodize or electro-colouring in accordance with the standard colour charts of suppliers or as per customers’ request.

GASKETS• Perimeter gaskets of the cell are all made of Santoprene material, either internally and externally; in the opening elements they are thermally welded at the corners.

GLAZED OPAQUE PANELSThe system allows the use of all glass typologies, with possible insertion of spandrels.Glazed packages inserted in GRIP-O-STYLE series will be able to satisfy any design drawing and any Designer’s prescription in way of aesthetics, safety, thermal protection, acoustics, acting loads, etc.

• Internal finishing may be realized with a panel provided of aluminium connections to the floor (skirting board) and to the window sill. Finishing panels are realized with 14 mm melamine sheets and standard colour.

All specific inquires for use of special materials will be forwarded to our technical department that, in collaboration with the Client’s technicians, will analyse the project request and check the application feasibility.

GRIP-O-STYLE/BLIND SERIES (FOR BULLET-PROOF GLASS WALLS)Grip-O-Blind represents an advanced bullet proof curtain wall: transom and mullion system, with mobile cells and with frame-panel silicone hooking mechanically retained. All the profiles forming the grid are subject to the armouring process, with insertion of steel plates in the cavities of the extrusions thus creating a continuous and homogeneous bullet-proof and anti-hooliganism barrier on the whole surface. It is impossible to remove the single cells from the outside, which consequently means an anti-intrusion reliability of the wall. This curtain wall is suitable for those buildings requesting protection and safety versus persons and things, such as banks, service centres, institutions and public buildings, railway stations, airports, and zones adjacent to demonstration places. The standard glazed package as provided by this series covers anti-hooliganism and soundproof: it is manufactured with stratified glasses and plastic films. Further insertion of special films and/or polycarbonate sheets assures bullet-proof features, with variable protection grade depending on the requested classifications and on the package performances.

GRIP-O-STYLE

SERIES

This is a curtain wall system developed by SOMEC and world-wide patented with an advanced technological concept: transom and mullion curtainwall, with mobile cells and with frame-panel silicone hooking mechanically retained. Suitable for creation of glass walls for anti-vandalism and anti-intrusion purposes as well as for those requesting high acoustic protection. It is a curtain wall system specifically designed by SOMEC for those buildings requesting protection and security versus things and people, such as banks, service centres, institutions and public buildings. This system is highly recommended for buildings arising nearby extremely noisy areas as, but not limited to, railway stations, airports and any area adjacent to demonstration places. Its special structure composition and the double stratification of the external glass panel, assure the impossibility of falling down of the glass panesor of panel fragments in the case of extraordinary solicitations (i.e. Earthquakes, Hurricanes) or of intentionally caused acts (objects thrown during public demonstrations or hooliganism acts, etc.). Stratification of the glass is obtained with advanced manufacturing procedures, exploiting high technologies derived by the aeronautical, motor, railway and military sectors, which enables the glass pane to withstand high intensity solicitations. The standard glazed package as provided by this curtain wall series covers the anti-vandalism

and anti-intrusion performances with a 500 J energy. Simulations of violent aggressions were executed on the curtain wall tested, by throwing heavy objects against the wall without any glass breaking or fragments falling. The absence of visible profiles is not due to a standard structural sealing, but instead it is based on a mechanical retaining system of the glazed package, exploiting the geometry and the differentiated cuts of the glasses composing the special package. The cantilever edges of the glasses are glued on the profiles so to minimize the release of splinters in case of glass breakage. Externally the "all glass” effect of the glazed envelope is enhanced to the maximum, as the distance between the borders of all glazed panels is reduced to 12 mm only, with no need to apply to the structural joining technique. There are no externally visible metal profiles. In the internal part of the glazed panel, stratified glasses can be used to satisfy further qualifications requested by the concerned security rules. The profiles of cells applied to the grid can be both of the cold section type or with interruption of thermal bridge (TT version). It is impossible to remove the single cells from the outside, which consequently means anti-intrusion reliability of the wall.
