Site Collections, Subsites, and Workspaces
Web Application is hidden in SharePoint
Site Collection is the “top level” site, can have 50,000 per Content Database
Under a site collection root you can have any number of sub sites
Each root or sub site can have its own pages, permissions, master page and theme, and functionality, and is based on a site definition that defines its available components
Workspaces are more transitory sites for document collaboration
Much of SharePoint work is spent planning, and configuring, these logical elements

Lists and Libraries
List and Libraries are a core concept in SharePoint
They encapsulate content, permissions, functionality, and metadata
Libraries ARE lists
Lists have views that are customizable ways of displaying information
All Lists are available via their own URL
Lists can be used for lookup information for Metadata (Site Columns)
They are a bit like a table in a database containing many rows of information (but NOT relational!)
