(Hotel)
Woman wears green blouse: I wonder who leaked the story about London?
Child wears army blouse : I bet that was that creepy waiter,
Chuck, I never liked him.
Child wears red blouse : You liked him until Maddie liked him.
Waitress : (out of the room and close the door)
Hey, Estaban, come here! (call the waiter)
I know who leaked the gossip about London.
Estaban (waiter) : Oh no! I can’t take any more secret!
LA LA LA LA (close his ears)
Waitress : It was that grumpy waiter, Chuck.
Estaban : Oh, Chuck, really?
Waitress : (nod her head in silent)
Estaban : That “LA LA” thing never really works.
Do you know about Moseby?
Waitress : No

Analysis1. As we can see the waitress give the
information about “who leaked the gossip about London” to Estaban, whereas she has no adequate evidence about what she say. She just hear the name “ Chuck” from the children
2. The fact, the child who mention name “Chuck the creepy waiter “ also still don’t know the doer and just bet to Chuck’s name.

Receptionist’s table)Man : What’s up?
So, um.. Where were you yesterday? Cause, like.... I was here.... and you weren’t.
Woman : Oh, I was with....Woman’s mind: Be mysterious! Aloof. Torture him!Woman : (nod her head) .... someone.Man : (nod his head)Woman : Someone.... else.Man : Really?
Oh, so I guess that means you wouldn’t want to go out sometimes?
Woman : How about tonight? Woman’s mind: Whatever you do, don’t look eager!Woman : Not that I’m .... eager.
I’ll check my calendar. I’m free! (hurriedly answer)
![Page 11: Grice’s maxim of cooperative behaviour analysis](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062523/587db8381a28abae2f8b7b3d/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
AnalysisA woman made an ambiguity about
what she say, and makes the man conclude that she won’t go out with him.
![Page 12: Grice’s maxim of cooperative behaviour analysis](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062523/587db8381a28abae2f8b7b3d/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Maxim of Relevance• Be relevant
Example 4 Maxim of Relation(720p).
MP4 By watching this video we can
conclude that the conversation which they have is failure. Since, the woman gave unrelated respond to the man.
![Page 13: Grice’s maxim of cooperative behaviour analysis](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062523/587db8381a28abae2f8b7b3d/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
(Receptionist’s table)Man : So for our date, I was thinking we’ll take a quick swim, hit the
Jacuzzi and watch “Seabiscuit”!Woman : You do know it’s about a horse?Man : (looks confused) Sea horse?Woman : Lance, we need to talk. See, I think you’re ...
(closer to a man) ... a really great guy, and ...Woman’s mind : Don’t beat around the bush!Woman : The point is ...
(Step aside) Life is like an ocean... I ebbs..... and flows......Woman’s mind : Dump him now! Don’t make me come out of this
bubble!Woman : (to her mind) Would you be quiet? Man : Who’re you taking to?Woman : No one. Look, Lance....
Life is like a river.....Man : Actually ..... I prefer pool.Woman : Okay, that does it.
This isn’t working. I can’t go out with someone who only talks about water.
Man : You’re the one that’s talking about water!
![Page 14: Grice’s maxim of cooperative behaviour analysis](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062523/587db8381a28abae2f8b7b3d/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Analysis1. The woman makes the man
confuse about what she answer. 2. Make a conversation being weird
by put an analogy which is not relevant with.
