We hope you all had a safe and happy break. A special welcome is extended to the families of ten new students who started school at Greythorn Primary this week. Ken Darby, Fiona Limoli and I have been impressed with the way students have already settled into Term 3. It was great to see so many happy faces as we visited each class over the last few days, with students fully en- gaged in their learning. Term 3 will be another busy term. As well as Athletics for Years 3-6 next Tuesday, Years 5 and 6 are currently involved in Family Life sessions and Year 4 have been dancing with Footsteps. In the remaining weeks of July, Senior Choir have the Winter Music Festival, Years 5 and 6 will attend Resilience workshops with Hugh van Cuylenburg and we offer the UNSW ICAS tests for registered students. The usual favourites (French Club, Chess Club, Gardening Club, Games Club) also resume. Please keep an eye on all upcoming events in our diary dates. We have had some staffing changes since last term. Tom Gosling replaces Ken Darby as 6D’s new teacher. Wel- come Tom! At the end of Term 2, Elizabeth Turley advised Geoff Agnew she was retiring from teaching. I’m sure parents would agree the quality of children’s art at Greythorn is amazing. The stunning works around the school are the result of Elizabeth’s skilled planning and teaching. Additionally, they reflect the passion Elizabeth shared with our students and her extensive understanding of creative processes and materials. We plan to honour Elizabeth’s dedication and zeal and thank her for such a significant contribution to Greythorn for almost 20 years. Although it does seem a long way from 2016, Principals need to begin planning for the following year in Term 3. With this in mind, could parents please: Enrol your 2016 Prep child immediately. We sometimes find siblings of current students ‘forget’ to do this. As Boroondara schools have a common enrolment date of 31st May, we are now planning staffing for 2016 Prep classes. Late enrolments can unnecessarily increase class sizes, so please enrol your child NOW. If you know your child is leaving Greythorn at the end of this year, please advise the office (except for current Year 6 students). This helps us plan our classes and staffing as accurately as possible. It has been a very wet and cold start to the term. When the weather conditions are extreme, we keep students inside the buildings during recess and lunchtime, or for part of it to balance the need for a run around without get- ting overly cold. Rest assured that the teachers on yard duty are sensitive to extreme weather as well! If your child becomes unwell, please keep them at home to provide the best care and help prevent the spread of germs. Enjoy the unusually wet weather: it’s a great time to invest in a pair of gumboots for your child for some winter puddle fun. Kind regards, Kim Dray
