Opening Address
Dr. Carlos Morais Pires (European Commission)is Head of the Sector of the 'Scientific DataInfrastructure' in the unit dealing with e-Infrastructures in the EU 7th FrameworkProgramme (Capacities Programme). He has beenwith the European Commission (InformationSociety DG) since 1998, dealing with the
development of a large number of R&D projects on Information andCommunication Technologies and has been actively involved inbringing output from research into policy and regulatory activities.He holds a Ph.D. from Telecom Italia Lab/University of Lisbon, inElectrical Engineering in the field of Telecommunication andBroadcasting Technologies. Before joining the EC, he was with thedepartment of Computer Science of ISCTE University in Lisbon.
Keynote Address
Dr. Jan Brase (TIB Hannover) has a degree inMathematics and a PhD in Computer science. Hisresearch background is metadata, ontologies anddigital libraries. Since 2005 he is head of the DOI-registration agency for research data at theGerman National Library of Science andTechnology (TIB). He is furthermore ManagingAgent of DateCite that has set itself the goal of
making online access to all kinds of information for scientists easierby promoting the acceptance of research data and grey literature asindividual, citable scientific objects. Jan is Chair of the InternationalDOI foundation (IDF), Vice-President of the International Council forScientific and Technical Information and Co-Chair of the CODATAData Citation task group.
