Greetings NW Des Moines Rotarians! The ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk is the time we come together, rais- ing funds and sharing hope to declare one number above others: ZERO. Your participation in the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk makes a real difference in the lives of men and fami- lies fighting prostate cancer. From funding research for a test to distinguish aggressive from slowing growing disease, to providing educational and support resources to at risk men in your community, you are driving ZERO’s mission to end prostate cancer. At ZERO, 97 cents of every dollar donated goes toward the lifesaving programs, so you can be confident of the direct impact your participa- tion has in your local community. – Zerocancer.org Scribe, Dan Boes 2015-16 Officers & Directors Future Programs Arranged By: Chuck Corwin Greeter: David Piersel Invocation: Mary Polson Sergeant: Brad Helgemo Scribe: Mark McAndrews Bill Grask, President Brenda A-M, President Elect Bill Corwin, Treasurer Dianne D-Nelson, Secretary Ed Arnold, Director Chuck Corwin, Director Penny Luthens, Director Mark McAndrews, Director Jenifer M-K, Director Wendi Wilson, Director Dan Boes, Past President 6/3: Liz Beck Rotary Overseas Scholarships 6/10: Jon-Michael Rosmann Iowa Prescription Drug Corporation Prez Sez... Prostate Cancer occurs in 1 in 7 men. If it is detected early it is nearly 100% survivable. If it is not detected early the cancer will spread to the bones and likely cause death. This is no longer considered your grandfather’s dis- ease, younger men are increasingly affected. Mark is chairing the ZERO Prostate Cancer Challenge. This is a run/walk to raise both money and awareness for prostate cancer. The ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk series is the premier program of ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer, the leading national non- profit organization with the mission to end prostate cancer. ZERO funds patient programs, early detection, and builds awareness. Mark Good Prostate Cancer Awareness

Foundation Minute for Week of May 23Everyone looks for different and effective fundraisers for Rotary Foundation! Here are a few:

The Binghamton Philharmonic held a Mac ‘n Cheese Festival. Various restaurants and bars offered their signature macaroni and cheese for a tasting contest – and local microbreweries were present to wash the samples down! The event was advertised on the web and sold 1000 tickets within one week!

A Rotary club up north holds a golf tournament in January!! This tournament is played with a colored ball – a white one would certainly get lost in the snow banks. They play only nine holes and have great fun.

And of course how about a short dip in Lake Champlain– in December! Members of District 7190 sell sponsorships for the event each year and it brings in loads of funds for the Foundation.

The Unadilla Rotary in District 7170- annually holds a pie contest – who can make the best one? The event is sold out and everyone goes home filled and happy.

Whitney Point Rotary holds a Lobster Dinner. Members drive to Maine from New York State to pick up the little critters, and the dinners are consistently sold out!

The Trumansburg Rotary sells raffle tickets for a three-minute free shopping trip through a local supermarket!! The winner receives the chance to fill a shopping cart with as much as he/her can pick up within the time limit.

Great ideas to benefit the Rotary Foundation!!
