MSP, IGCSE, IB February 27- March 9: Callido Curriculum Greenwood is known to think outside the box. To help students develop 21st century critical and analytical thinking, research, problem-solving and communication skills, Grade 7 and Grade 8 students were trained on the world-class Callido curriculum. Every participant underwent a proprietary assessment that measured the various skill sets of students. This learning programme emphasizes the importance of skills like logical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, information and communication skills in an environment where the focus is only on exam results. Such programmes give a whole new perspective to a budding thinker of the future and Greenwood is committed to tap into such innovative education methodologies. March 1: Vaccination Drive In keeping with the spirit of a healthy body in a healthy mind, Greenwood held a vaccination camp on its premises where students in large numbers braced themselves to take injections as mandated by the government of the State of Karnataka. Greenwood students can now bid goodbye to Measles and Rubella forever. March 3: A cricket match to remember: Students Vs Staff Grade XII students challenged the school staff in a friendly cricket match held at the school ground. The students did stretch their teachers in the 10 overs match. Cries of “what a shot,” “that’s a four,” “we want a six” reverberated throughout the ground as students cheered their teachers from the sidelines. The student team coming to bat second, hit their fours and sixes too but fell short by 20 runs in the end to hand their teachers an easy victory. It was indeed a match to remember for the outgoing Grade XII students. They will certainly remember an event like this for years to come. March 10: Braieneac, The Robotics Fest Braieneac is for budding scientists of the future. Greenwood recognizes that in the fast-changing and competitive world, its students need to work with new-age, high-tech innovative technologies and Braieneac is one such initiative. Four fun-filled events saw massive response from student teams vying for top honours. There was a multi-level gaming competition for those quick-minded gamers; a creative meme-making event to showcase our school’s artistic side, a certificate design contest to see who would make the official winner’s certificate, and a rescue mission robotics competition for our more technically-inclined students. As a part of their drama curriculum, the students of Grade V presented ‘An Afternoon with Greek Theatre’. The programme saw comical monsters, melodious choruses, hand-made props, tragic heroes and heroines facing great perils, and overcoming them with sheer grit and determination. The highlight of the event was that our super students wrote, adapted, directed, acted and managed the plays all by themselves. The students sure excelled in mastering this ancient art form of conceptualizing, writing, editing and acting across the whole production process. March 8: World of Activity Day The little ones of Grades I-III were at their artistic best displaying their talents designing beautiful jewelry, cards, clay-models and painting works of immaculate beauty. Some students showcased their talent for story-telling whereas others sang melodiously displaying the whole range of their vocal chords. The l’il bundles of energy participated enthusiastically in every activity leaving each one of us mesmerized. Nobody could walk past without appreciating the colourful and creative imagination of our children at full display here. March 24: Social and Science Exhibition Our Grade IV and V students took the lead in holding a Social and Science Exhibition. Students displayed their projects with much gusto and eagerly shared their understanding about what they had learned throughout this academic year. Topics varying from the link between Greek and Egyptian civilizations, mummification, Olympics and Greek Gods to avalanches, water cycle and clouds, volcanoes, water and land pollution, big bang theory, renewable and non-renewable sources of energy were standout social sciences exhibits. It was a pleasure to find students speaking about magnets, electricity, human body and injury, unique plants, hydraulic lift, friction, kinetic and potential energy, states of matter in Science. March 11: Staff Outing It was a fun day for staff across all Greenwood schools to spend some quality time together. The school management had graciously arranged trainers at the elite The Golden Palms Hotels & Spa for its staff to play some team-building games and get to know each other well. The teachers responded with glee as they tried to outdo their competitors from other teams in a healthy, fun way. The outing culminated with a delicious lunch and high tea which were appreciated by one and all. The teachers indeed let their hair down, as suggested by our very loving Principal. March 14: Pi Day Greenwood had its own share of Maths pie at the Pi Day celebrated with much pomp and fanfare on March 14th. The students were up for the challenges thrown up by the much-loved Math Olympiad. The Quiz was also a huge draw for our whiz kids through grades IX and XII. The cheers and noise the event witnessed stand testimony to its popularity. The two events tested students on lesser-known, but important aspect of the subjects like famous mathematicians, equations, and other relevant principles. The students also made the most of treasure hunt activity. Emerald House won both treasure hunt and the Quiz. The MSP collage-making competition saw students bring out not only their mathematical but also their creative side in demonstrating the use of Mathematics in everyday life. Not far behind was another MSP event, Math Bingo which saw enthusiastic participation from eager students. Who knew Maths could be such a show-stealer? March 16-18: Grade IX Girls Leadership Camp Grade IX girls attended a three-day leadership camp in the picturesque Nilgiri Hills, Tamil Nadu. The girls showed exemplary leadership skills in schooling grade 1 to 5 students of a tribal school on the basics of personal hygiene and cleanliness. The girls devised several games and fun activities for little students to create this awareness amongst them. Earlier, the girls also excelled at zip lining, net climbing, rope courses and other team activities making this camp a truly exhilarating experience and one to remember for days to come. March 26: Social Science Day Social Science Day was a thrilling event for MSP and high school. Following the inauguration ceremony and a prayer by Mr. D’Mello, our learned Principal, the day was set for an enthusiastic start. Grade 7 and 8 students fought a challenging quiz while Grade 9 and 11 students were busy unearthing the hidden jewels in a treasure hunt. The popular JAM competition for grade 9 was won by Emerald House students. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the play, ‘Voices’ – an original production put on by the Grade 11 psychology department. The play focused on the issues of anorexia, anxiety and depression. Through their truly commendable acting and proficient use of props, music and lighting, the psychology department was able to raise awareness on these subjects. The events of the day also included an enthralling dance by grade 8 girls, followed by a heated debate between grade 11 students on ‘whether or not all countries should have the right to develop nuclear weapons’. The business students of grade 11 gave a good account of themselves running FMCG stalls throughout the hot, sunny day with mouth-watering food and cool, refreshing drinks. The profits they made will be donated to a charity working for a social cause. SPORTS Basketball: Greenwood High beat all odds at basketball to emerge as runners-up at the hard-fought Trio World Academy Basketball Tournament. The boys overcame stiff competition at the strong 6-team event to reach the finals over their much-fancied rivals. Archisman Keshan of Grade X was recognised as the best player of the tournament. March is the month where the Sun shines on the Equator for the Vernal Equinox, giving us a near 50-50 split of day and night. In a similar fashion, our students are arduously able to balance the demands of their rigorous academic curriculum with co-curricular and extra-curricular activities shining throughout in the process. As we close for the spring break next week, we expect our students to come back rejuvenated and refreshed, but hungry for more next month.
