Greening the Grid 1. Modeling Reforms

Scope

• National grid integration study – Focused analysis to answer policy questions

affecting the entire interconnections.

• Two regional grid integration studies -address questions requiring more

granular focus, such as design of regional balancing pilots

• Ultra-mega RE parks - evaluate operational impacts of proposed RE parks, and

options to reduce variability and uncertainty to improve balancing.

• Analysis to support pilots

Greening the Grid 1. Modeling Reforms – Update

• PLEXOS licenses provided to POSOCO, CEA, CTU and three (3) SLDCs. PLEXOS hands-on training provided to all key stakeholders.

• Grid Integration review Committee established to provide rigor to the studies. GIRC met 3 times to review the methodology, assumptions, results.

• National grid integration report released in July 2017 by Power Minister. Regional reports in process of being finalized

• First Regulatory Exchange in August 2016• Developed Regulatory Primer on RE forecasting, scheduling and dispatch

with focus at National and state level (Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu)• Primer distills challenges for grid integrations in India and maps the

potential lessons from reforms in three U.S. case studies. • Training Tour in February to U.S. on 3 case studies

• Several training and bootcamps undertaken since the launch• Three days regional workshop on forecasting (9 participants).

• Boot camp (intensive training) on Forecasting – Two modules (Basic and Advanced)
