WELCOME

Sponsored by GREENFLEET AWARDS – 22 October 2015

Yours sincerelyJason Devoto

Managing Director – PSi Group

We would like to welcome you to the 2015 GreenFleet Awards, which this year takes place at Edgbaston, the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club.

The GreenFleet Awards is a celebration of the efforts of many organisations and individuals that strive to improve environmental fleet performance.

A big thank you to all the organisations that entered this years’ Awards and continued to demonstrate how the UK is pioneering environmental fleet management. GreenFleet’s regional “Plug-In” events continued to expand in 2015 and once again proved very popular. We plan to enhance this program further in 2016, to mirror the OLEV City Scheme, due to be announced later this year. Please keep an eye out for further details and contact your GreenFleet Account Manager to get involved. Thank you to our Headline Sponsors, GreenMotion, and all our other sponsors – without them we would not be celebrating here tonight. And a big thanks to the many organisations that continue to give the Awards, GreenFleet events and GreenFleet magazine their support. I wish you all an enjoyable, and hopefully successful, night.

Three years ago, Addison Lee launched a new benchmark for excellence in minicab driving. The Addison Lee Diploma, was the first of its kind in the industry. This diploma provides recognition to the best private hire drivers in London, whilst improving driver knowledge and understanding of London routes and is designed to provide four different levels of achievement: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

H Addison Lee

H O’Donovan Waste Disposal

O’Donovan is one of London’s leading waste management companies. As a family-run business with a fleet of 85 lorries, running a green and efficient operation is particularly important. Its successes since the implementation of new initiatives can be demonstrated by clear improvements across the business, including a reduction in CO2 emissions of 21.5 per cent, with a 27.5 per cent increase in fuel efficiency.

Driver Training Initiative Award

Sponsored byGREENFLEET AWARDS – 22 October 2015

PRESENTED BY

While manufacturers have made great strides in reducing tailpipe emissions, other technologies such as telematics and driver training have as much impact on fleet efficiency as the vehicles themselves – it has been demonstrated that a combination of both can improve driver efficiency by as much as 42 per cent.* The provision of a multi-faceted information source for transport and fleet managers is essential to increase environmental and product knowledge, and to assist in making informed decisions on the latest vehicles, fuels and technologies. GreenFleet® occupies this role – it comprises the only magazine and website dedicated to environmental fleet management. These valuable information sources are accompanied by a series of nationwide events that provide practical demonstrations on how to achieve these efficiencies. Organisations that are serious about environmental fleet management choose GreenFleet as their guide.

*A driver at the 2012 GreenFleet Arrive n Drive achieved an mpg improvement of 42 per cent. Figures based on 49mpg before driver training and monitoring vs 86mpg after expert tuition and monitoring.

For FIAT Professional, protecting the environment isn’t a marketing exercise; it is built into the ethos of the company. The single biggest variable in vehicle efficiency, driver behaviour, is addressed using FIAT’s eco:Drive Professional system which allow drivers to input various parameters such as vehicle load and frontal area so it can suggest the most efficient driving behaviour. eco:Drive Fleet allows fleet managers to monitor their vehicles via an online dashboard, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the fleet, helping managing maintenance schedules and compare its performance according to the overall eco:Index. The vehicles themselves are also constantly improving, with the latest Ducato providing a 10 per cent improvement in economy and emissions compared to its predecessor, while “EcoJet” versions the FIAT Doblo features a range of technologies to improve efficiency including Start&Stop, eco-tyres and oils, smart alternators and pumps and new aerodynamic packs. Even more efficiencies, particularly in terms of NOx, will be realised with the introduction of Euro 6. We even consider whole lifespan of the vehicles, designing four-part bumpers to minimise repair waste, and increasing the overall longevity of vehicles. In the case of the new Ducato’s body, for example, its lifespan is boosted by more than 50 per cent!

H Lex Autolease

Lex Autolease is the UK’s leading vehicle management and funding specialist, currently managing over 300,000 cars and vans for organisations of all shapes and sizes. By assessing aspects such as sustainability, funding, cost reduction, duty of care and policy, Lex Autolease ensures its fleets run as efficiently as possible. In April, Lex Autolease reached a milestone in adding the 2000th plug-in electric vehicle to its fleet, a Nissan eNV200.

H FleetDrive

Fleetdrive have been delivering business vehicle leasing and added-value fleet management solutions since 1994. Through consultation with public and private sector organisations, Fleetdrive identified that a significant barrier to businesses adopting EV technology within its fleet is the uncertainty of the practicalities of running EVs. Therefore Fleetdrive created a new EV Flexi-Lease service, enabling organisations to make easily extendable trials of electric vehicles.

H Zenith Leasedrive Group

Zenith Leasedrive is a full service leasing provider, offering an innovative carbon ‘offsetting’ service, which runs in partnership with the CarbonNeutral company. The offsetting service allows customers to offset the CO2 emissions of their entire fleet by sponsoring carbon neutral projects around the world. In short, for every tonne of CO2 a vehicle produces, customers can choose to pay for that tonne of CO2 to be saved, providing customers with an innovative way to reduce their CO2 impact.

H Automotive Leasing

Automotive Leasing are a wholly-owned subsidiary of LeasePlan UK, with over 550 clients. Automotive Leasing’s GreenPlan project is a program that provides cost efficient ULEV solutions to public sector and not for profit fleets. The programme works by replacing fleets with newer, cleaner substitutes such as hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure-electric vehicles - to implementing technologies to reduce emissions by decreasing vehicle idling, monitor and manage driver behaviour and provide educational programmes.

The Mercedes-Benz Econic features a unique low-entry cab which allows the vehicle to offer operators in busy city centres exactly what they need: efficiency, safety, environmental compatibility and comfort. Specialist tasks are the norm for the Econic – whether used as a refuse collection or recycling vehicle, for inner city distribution or road maintenance, or as a fire appliance, it provides a versatile and easy-to-operate chassis platform. Key to the Econic’s appeal is its innovative low-entry, aluminium space-framed cab, clad with sheet-moulded composite fibre (SMC) panels. The reduced height and low driving position are complemented by a deep, panoramic windscreen which accords the driver an unrivalled field of vision to the front and both sides – a clear advantage when driving through built-up areas, or complex urban environments which are shared by pedestrians and cyclists. As well as meeting Euro VI emissions levels, the diesel engines offered in the Econic range provide the lowest possible fuel consumption resulting in the cleanest of vehicles with the lowest running costs and CO2.

H Heathrow Airport

Responsible Heathrow is a sustainability strategy that sets out the airports ambition to reduce NOx emissions by 5% by 2020. Heathrow has committed £5million to investment in electric vehicle charging infrastructure to support the 400 companies at Heathrow to turn their vehicles and ground support equipment electric, incentivising investment by exempting electric vehicles from the maximum age limit.

H Carter Synergy

Carter Synergy has completed a project to reduce its fleet from 623 down to 574 vehicles by removing all non-essential vehicles, doubling up engineers and reducing the number of spare/pool vehicles down to a minimum. To further reduce emissions, Carter Synergy has also undertaken a new manufacturer tender, which includes the introduction of LCV that utilise a 1.6 BiTurbo engine, decreasing each vehicle’s CO2 output from 198 to 155g/km increased MPG from 37.7mpg to 47.9mpg.

H Willmott Dixon

Willmott Dixon currently has approximately 800 company cars and 720 vans. In 2014 the company retained the 120g/CO² per km maximum emissions for cars on company car list and has a rolling replacement program to ensure vehicles are only kept until they are three years old. To support sustainability the company has also introduced a car sharing policy to encourage employees to share vehicles for work related journeys.

H Gentoo Group

Gentoo Group has long recognised the importance of having a green fleet. Speed limiters and telematics are fitted into fleet vehicles and all staff who drive a LCV must attend a driver assessment training session once every 3 years, with an excess of 500 drivers taking part since 2010. Increased video conferencing facilities also help to avoid unnecessary travel, along with the introduction of electric bicycles, which all together have helped to save 8.25 tonnes of CO2 in a year.

H Darren Smith, Heathrow

Responsible Heathrow, the airport’s sustainability strategy, sets out ambitions to reduce environmental impacts, including to reduce ground-based nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions (aircraft, airside vehicles and airport related traffic) by 5% by 2020 and reduce CO2 from Heathrow Airport Limited vehicles. As the Fleet manager, Darren Smith has helped push forward reforms that saw a reduction in annual emissions from of the airside vehicle fleet of approximately 3,000 tonnes of CO2 and 74 tonnes of NOx between 2008/9 and 2013. Strict standards have now been set for all new vehicle contracts, meaning that all buses must comply with the latest EU vehicle standards. 27 hybrid buses have also been introduced on two routes, producing 94 per cent less NOx and 37 per cent less CO2 compared to Euro 5 standard buses, and the airside ramp team now exclusively use zero-emission battery electric vehicles.

H Colin Watson, Gentoo Group

As the fleet manager for Gentoo Group, Colin Watson has long recognised the importance of having a green fleet. Colin has overseen the introduction of speed limiters and telematics into his fleet and played an important role in driver assessment training, which ensures LCV drivers attend training sessions once every three years and has seen more than 500 drivers take part since 2010. Gentoo group have also introduced new innovative approaches to address the environmental impacts of the grey fleet. This includes increased video conferencing facilities to help to avoid unnecessary travel, the introduction of electric bicycles, expanding the pool cars to 13 and applying a maximum age limit on vehicles. All of these measures have combined to a total reduction of 8.25 tonnes of CO2 in a year.

TomTom Telematics launched the OptiDrive 360 in March 2015 following extensive research by the EU’s ecoDriver project. Using vehicle and map data to provide fleet drivers with predictive real-time driving advice, OptiDrive 360 enables drivers to anticipate the road ahead to reduce fuel consumption and improve road safety. The groundbreaking development advises drivers when to take their foot off the accelerator on the approach to junctions and roundabout, when to shift gear and what their optimum speed should be. After the trip a snapshot analysis is available to review the trip statistics, with all information displayed via the drivers PRO navigation terminal. OptiDrive 360 scores drivers based on a total of eight performance indicators - speeding, driving events (such as harsh steering or braking), idling, fuel consumption, green speed, coasting (taking your foot off the accelerator while in gear), gear shifting and constant speed.

H Toyota

The first Toyota Mirais landed in the UK in early August 2015 and was officially launched in September, with the first few models snapped up primarily by business and corporate customers. The Mirai, which means future in Japenese, stands as Toyota’s first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicle and has been reported to achieve a range of 312 miles on a single tank of fuel. As well at its UK launch, the Mirai has also been introduced in limited numbers in selected European markets, including Germany and Denmark, following its initial launch in Japan and California. Toyota expects the release of the Mirai to mark the ‘debut of a new age for clean mobility’ and a ‘turning point in the history of the automobile’, building on Toyota’s history with electric drivetrain technology, starting with the Prius 15 years ago.

GreenFleet Award for Industry Innovation
