What is green building. ?
• “not as bad” as the average building in terms of its impact on the environment or one that is “notably better” than the average
• building, to one that may even represent a regenerative process where there is actually an improvement and restoration of the site and it’s surrounding environment. The ideal “green” project preserves and restores habitat that is vital for sustaining life and becomes a net producer and exporter of resources,
materials, energy and water rather than being a net consumer. A green building is one whose construction and lifetime of operation assure the healthiest possible environment while representing the most efficient and least disruptive use of land, water, energy and resources. The optimum design solution is one that effectively emulates all of the natural systems and conditions of the pre-developed site – after development is complete
What is LEED.?
• Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green buildings which was Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
• To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Prerequisites and credits differ for each rating system, and teams choose the best fit for their project.

Objective of green building.?
• Although new technologies are constantly being developed to complement current practices in creating greener structures, the common objective is that green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:
• Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources
• Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity
• Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation
Five main elements while building green building structures
Major elements of green building design which are:
1.Sustainable Site Design;
2. Water Conservation and Quality;
3.Energy and Environment;
4.Indoor Environmental Quality;
5. Conservation of Materials and Resources.
Material efficiency
• Building elements should be manufactured off-site and delivered to site, to maximisebenefits of off-site manufacture including minimising waste, maximising recycling (because manufacture is in one location), high quality elements, less noise and dust.
Materials to use
Wool brick
Obtained by adding wool and a natural polymer found in seaweed to the clay of the brick,.37% More strength than burnt bricks
Resistant for cold and wet climate
We should focus on using more of Renewable sources: Forests, sun, wind, water energy
Sustainable ConcreteCrushed glass
Wood chips or slag - a byproduct
of steel manufacturing.
Reduces the emission of CO2
Solar TilesExist to simply protect a building
They spend a large portion
of the day absorbing energy
from the sun.
Paper InsulationMade from recycled newspapers and cardboardThen filled with chemical foamInsect resistant &fire retardant
Triple-Glazed Windows
Super-efficient windowsStops heat to enter the building & from direct sunlight
Waste reduction• Green architecture
also seeks to reduce waste of energy, water and materials used during construction.
• For example, in California nearly 60% of the state's waste comes from commercial buildings
Merits Of Green Building1. Efficient Technologies

DEMERITS OF GREEN BUILDING
1.INITIAL COST IS HIGH
2.AVAILABILITY OF MATERIALS
3.NEED MORE TIME
TO CONSTRUCT
4.NEED SKILED WORKER
