Dear Parents and carers
Great Writing!
I have seen some wonderful work
this week and have especially enjoyed
reading some stunning pieces of writing from pupils
across the school. In all classes, pupils have been
using talk4writing to support them in developing their
own story ideas and to help them to structure their
writing in a cohesive and imaginative way. Examples
of pupils using talk4writing can be viewed on our
website. In key stage 1 we are seeing some exciting
and extensive writing already! Pupils in year 5 shared
some of their brilliant work on Shakespeare’s The
Tempest and it was a privilege to hear some of them
perform their pieces entitled Prospero’s Spell. We
were delighted that Father Rick was also able to hear
this brilliant writing being performed.
The pupil in the above photo said gleefully “I just love
writing” and Emily in Year 1 said “I wrote that story
because when I grow up I am going to be an author.”
Below is another great piece of writing from Henry in
Year 6 on his topic of World War 2.

Class 3HZ Assembly
A big well done to all the
pupils in Mrs Zuniga’s class,
who led us in a wonderful
liturgy on Thursday of this
week. The children began by
sharing their learning on
their recent Hinduism topic and explaining some of
the rituals Hindus perform as part of their religious
practice. The children then used liturgical dance and
talk4writing in a lovely retelling of the Gospel story of
the Ascension (see photograph). Thank you to the
many parents and carers who joined us for this
assembly.
Punctuality and Attendance
I am delighted to report that punctuality in school is
improving all the time and nearly all pupils are in
school on time every day. Thank you to all parents for
ensuring that your child is in school by 8.50am ready
for registration. The school day starts at 8.50 promptly
and in all classes pupils are expected to quickly settle
into their early morning mental maths activities. It’s
vital therefore that the start of the day is not missed!
Miss Martin is our attendance officer and she tracks
attendance and punctuality closely and in some cases
she will write to parents if concerns regarding
punctuality or attendance emerge.
Wishing you all a lovely Bank Holiday weekend.
Best wishes
Angela O’Hara

Earrings:
Please can we remind parents that all jewellery
including the earrings should not be worn for PE. Your
child should be able to remove their earrings for their
PE lesson especially if they are able to take them out
after the prescribed time. If your child has only
recently had their ears pierced they will be unable to
remove them but they will need to cover them with
protective tape. We highly recommend that if parents
are intending for their child to have their ears pierced
that they do so at the start of the summer holidays so
they have time to heal before the start of the new
term.
Events:
Fish and Chip Bingo
Thank you to everyone that came along to the Fish
and Chip Bingo night last week. It was a fun way to
raise funds for the school.
Healthy Eating
Do you and your family have a favourite and unique
healthy meal you enjoy together? To coincide with St
Wilfrid’s Healthy Eating week starting Monday 16th
May the Friends would like to gather the children’s
favourite personalised recipes to make a special
school cookbook. Please get your thinking caps on
with your children so that they have a chance to add
their recipes to the book. More details to follow soon.
Thanks.
Second Hand Uniform
If you have any unwanted school uniform, or PE tops
and shorts (especially in the smaller sizes) please
donate them to the Friends Second Hand Uniform
sale. The sale helps provide affordable school uniform
to many families as well as raising valuable funds for
the school. You can take any donations to the school
office. The next Second Hand Uniform sale will take
place on Friday 6th May at 3.15pm in the Rainbow
Room. Many thanks.
