SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUTIn the mid 1800s during the Mexican-American War, 13,000 American Soldiers (Veterans) died fighting for terri-tory of our southern states. These Veterans defended our country with honor and deserve our respect. Their deathswere for us (the future generation). The war stopped when the United States paid off Mexico thus ending the war.CURRENTLY US Border Patrols are trying to enforce immigration laws along our borders while undergun point from Mexican Soldiers standing across the border in Mexico. Border Patrol Agents also have beentrying to do their jobs while stones are being thrown at them from those who think they have a right to enter our country at will.

LOCALLY Indiana has more than 100,000 illegal immigrants in our state. It is a known fact that illegal immigrants increase crime, liveoff the tax payers (welfare), receive free medical care while we American�s pay for it. Henry County is ranked 3rd in our state in unemploy-ment. Why are many local contractors employing those from out-of-town? Local people need jobs! I suspect greed from making hugeprofits from paying substandard wages are a factor. My firm has been approached and asked to consider working some of these presumedillegal workers. These are the same workers employed by several local contractors. I specifically ask for proof that each worker is author-ized to work in the United States. For some reason, they no longer wanted to talk to me.

WHAT CAN I DO? Hire contractors who work, train, and employ local people. Hire contractors who work their own employees ratherthan sub-contract to someone from out-of-town. Require contractors to provide you the names of employees who work on your property.Request that each worker produce proof that they are �authorized to work in the United States�. Several local contractors hire out-of-townsub-contractors that may employ illegal immigrants. DO NOT HIRE THEM!

REPORT those contractors who employ illegal immigrants to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at 1-866-347-2423. If you have hired those contractors and never thought of it from this prospective, or hired them not knowing their business practices: Consider removing their yard signs and don�t recommend them.

ENCOURAGE and recommend to your neighbors, and friends, to hire contractors who employee local legal workers. Many good peoplein our community may have hired some of these firms without thought to the economic impact on our community, and inadvertentlywithout regard for those who gave their life for our freedoms.

SPEAK UP! Let your position be know. Write an editorial, contact your Congressman. Let your State Representatives know thatIndiana needs a law like the State of Arizona against illegal immigration, and strong penalties for those who hire them.

The sacrifices of our Veterans would be in vain if you hire and support those who employ illegal immigrants. These American Soldiers died for you.Like many of us, they had families and friends and we should give them the respect they deserve. Businesses that employ illegals are doing more thanviolating the law. It�s bad behavior toward all those who have defended our country. It is my hope that some of the local contractors, and businesses,who employ illegals, and out of town workers will change their business practices. With your support this can happen. Don�t hire them!
