Description This program prepares students for a career in the visual communications design industry. Students study Conceptual Thinking, Workforce, Studio, Client Interaction, Client-Centered Project, Curriculum, and Flexible Pathways in Year 1. In Year 2, students will apply skills to both advanced design courses, take on clients through a mentored lab, and are required to complete a 120-hour practicum.

Competitive Selection Basis (Interview with Selection Committee) Interviews will be scheduled for applicants to present a portfolio demonstrating their creative ability and interest. Resumes are to be included with the portfolio. The primary goal of the interview, resume, and portfolio submission is a means to assess the likelihood of students’ success in the program. As a result of the interview, resume, and portfolio review, students may be offered seats in the program.

Career Prospects

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be qualified for a number of positions depending on prior edu-cation and employment experience. Past graduates have gained employment in design firms, advertising agen-cies, print houses and service bureaus, retail, architectural firms, communications industries, public and private companies as well as freelance contracting.

Courses

The program is designed to provide context and mimic the real-world graphic design industry. Courses in this face-to-face program are delivered through a combination of instructional activities: lectures, practical labs, seminars, demonstrations, guest lectures, videos, team activities, production, simulations, computer labs, and field trips. The Digital Graphic Design lab is equipped with Apple Mac workstations with the latest software and Operating Systems. Students have access to drawing tablets, digital cameras, and colour printers. The ratio of students to workstations is 1:1, and all classes take place in a modern computer lab. Classes are generally held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Class times are subject to change.

Tuition fees and other fees are approximate and subject to change due to yearly increases without notice. Students will be

required to pay increased rates if the fees change at any time during the period of enrolment in the program. Tuition and

other fees are payable on a continuous basis based on the courses in each program and when those courses are scheduled.

Application and assessment fees are non-refundable.
