GamesActivity One : Act It Out
Grammar Item: Present Progressive - VerbsProcedure:
1. Cut up Worksheet 1 into activities. One student comes to
the front of the class, draws a piece of paper with an
activity on it, and acts out the activity silently. The classtries to guess what he/she is doing.
2. The students can take turns acting out the activities, or
you can divide the class into teams. A student from each
team presents the activity to his/her team. If the teamguesses correctly in the allotted time (30 seconds), the
team scores a point. You may also allow the other team to
steal after the time limit is up. This keeps all students
involved.

Grammar Item: Verb Forms
Procedure:
1. Divide the class into teams of approximately four.Distribute a copy of the Worksheet 2 to each team.
2. Students roll to see who goes first. The students movetheir markers around the game board. When a playerlands on a square with a sentence, he/she must correct
the sentence. If the group judges the corrected answer tobe accurate, the student may roll again. If not, the turnpasses to the next student. The players should not discussthe correct answer when an incorrect answer has beengiven since another player may land on that same space
and have a chance to give an answer.3. Circulate among the groups to see how they are doing and
to act as judge if the group cannot decide if an answer iscorrect. The first player in each group to reach the end isthe winner.

Justification of Choosing the Games:
In activity 1, students are having fun by using their
physical movements to act out the verbs, and at the
same time, they learn the present progressive verbs.
In activity 2, students learn about the correct forms
of sentences with verbs used. Advantage is variability, you can use it for pair work
or group work.
By peers correction of the sentences, this may test
their understanding of verb forms. Hence, as
teachers, it is important to provide the correct
answers to their wrong sentences so that students
can learn from their mistakes.
