Senior Rugby results v Redlands ISA Round 6 v Redlands at Macquarie University

1st XV 26 defeated Redlands 14

16s 34 defeated Redlands 32

15s 43 defeated Redlands 12

14s 17 drew Redlands 17

13s 27 defeated Redlands 19

Thank you to all players, parents and coaching staff for a successful Term. Have a happy and safe holiday. Come back refreshed and keep fit!

Congratulations to our 1st XV Fullback Marcus Hundt, who this week is representing ISA in the NSWSRU trials held at Knox Grammar School. Good luck Marcus

CCGS 26 defeated Redlands 14 (Tries: Killen, McQueen, Lambeth, Collett. Goals: Collett 3 )

A good win for the Firsts

The first half saw much attack and counter attack by both teams, with nothing to show on the score board after the first twenty minutes.

Ben Killen took it upon himself to split the defence with a great bustling run registered the first points of the game. Soon after Mar-

cus Hundt ran the ball into Redland territory and off loaded to Sam Collett who posted our second try to take us into the break with a 14 – 7 lead.

The second half was much the same as the first with both teams unable to capitalise on any play. Once again it was CCGS to open the scoring with Scott McQueen posting a great try after some very good quick ball. With five minutes to go Tom Lambeth bullocked his way over for our bonus point try.

Thinking the game was in the bag CCGS lost concentration and didn’t se-cure the ball from the kick off and payed the ultimate price with Redlands scoring.

All up a solid, 26 – 14 win to CCGS.

CCGS Under 16s 39 defeated Redlands 34 (Tries: Kernan 2, Webb2, Greenwood, Northall Little. Goals: Barnett2, Kernan)

We again had to play Redlands who only had 12 players (all running backs). Uncontested scrums were enforced as Redland did not have a front row. CCGS boys put on a very good display of rugby during the first half. Matt Webb lead the charge with numerous blustering runs up the middle. This was by far his best game for the season and one we all hope he contin-ues. Another highlight was the beautifully executed clean out that Ben Nicholls performed late in the first half. This demonstrated that mush of the skill training we are currently doing is paying dividends.

The second half saw Redlands surge back into the match as our big for-wards started to tire. Once again the resilience of our back line players was tested but the boys hung on for a narrow but wonderful victory after losing to this team in round 1. This side continues to grow each week. We have a well-deserved break but remember to keep your selves fit as we have some hard games early next term

CCGS Under 15s 43 defeated Redlands 12 (Tries: Kernan 2, MacGuinness, Massey, Robson, Thomson-Moore, Buckland. Goals: Henderson-Foley 4)

On a glorious morning in Sydney, the boys took to the field with only 13 players due to injury and unforseen circumstance. However, this didn’t af-fect our opening play which saw some excellent moves from our backline and hard work from our forwards. Unfortunately we went to sleep for the final 15 minutes of the half which saw Redlands score twice amongst a flurry of decidedly debatable penalties. This meant the half time score was 12:19 and Redlands were in with a sniff.

After a “focussing” half time chat, we started the second half in a better frame of mind and this continued throughout the half. The outcome being a 43:12 victory with some excellent work from all in the second half. A good performance all in all boys, well done! Training this week before a de-served break to start our run into the finals.

CCGS Under 14s 17 drew with Redlands 17 (Tries: Chettle 2, Doyle. Goal: Baines) What a game from two teams that really wanted to win! The Redlands boys rucked well al day; their go-forward was relentless. Again possession went the opposition way for most of the game. When we gained the ball, tries were scored reasonably quickly. At almost every breakdown possession was gained by Redlands. We had to work really hard to keep the ball and

make headway towards the goal line. Only determination allowed our boys to be two tries to one up at half time.

The second half saw CCGS press their advantage in back-line speed and awesome forward pressure but they were thwarted just before scor-ing. Injuries hampered their timing and we allowed two tries to be scored to

one of ours. A difficult day for the boys, however they are learning to play within all interpretations of the laws and accept this result as the one that got away. Holi-day practice is a must, aerobic exercise, speed training and you need be focussed when we return next term.

Term 3 gives us only 4 games before the finals to get it all right. Watch as many games on ABC television, note the way the Wallabies and Lions play in their posi-tions. Work out how you can have a much

more enjoyable game.

Happy holidays to our Rugby families.

CCGS 13s 27 defeated Redlands 19 (Tries: Scarr, Fleetwood, Herron, Bennett, MacMillan-Perich. Goal: Fleetwood)

This was a gutsy performance from the boys where their will to win

came to the fore. It was a seesawing match throughout the game and

we only got on top in the closing 5 minutes of the game. We put to-

gether some excellent phases of play at stages during the game, but

mixed in with it, some fundamental errors. We will need to improve on

this aspect in the coming weeks. Best forwards on the day were Tim B,

Gordi, Tim S, James S, Will B, James B and Hugh G. Best backs for

the day were Callum, Harry H, Harrison, Tom H and Jon. The boys re-

ally played well as a team on the weekend and every player contribut-

ed to the win. A positive team culture and cohesiveness will go a long

way in the future. We don’t play again until the first week back in

Term 3. We will be playing against Chevalier in Bowral. It is important

to maintain your fitness over the break and really focus on your core

strength.

Prep Rugby Results Saturday 15th June 2013 Under 9s lost to Coogee Prep

Under 10s 0 lost to Redfield 43

From the Prep Rugby Convenor The teams were greeted by fantastic Winter Rugby weather on Saturday with blue skies and brisk temperatures being the order of the day. Both teams strived hard in their matches but were outclassed by more skilled opposition. It is important, at this stage, that all players realise that they are doing very well, given their limited experience and that they are im-proving in every match they play. Special thanks go to the coaching/ man-aging staff for their commitment and to the parents for their fantastic sup-port.

To all players – keep throwing balls around, practising shoulder position for tackling and watching Rugby during the holidays so you can come back raring to go in Term 3! Have a great break!

CCGS Under 10s 0 Redfield 43

TEAM CAPTAIN: Noah Stewart

VICE CAPTAIN: Ellis Murray

FORWARDS: Jesse Venner, Hugh Wassall, Louis Sturm, Riley Mears, Ham-ish Comber and Ellis Murray.

BACKS: Tim Wilkins, Noah Stewart, Seb Plummer, Oliver Peres, Max Rattray and Jack Jenkins.

This week we made the trip to Dural and all arrived bright and early, ready to warm up and have a good solid game. Each week we improve ten-fold and again we stepped out to do our best. We continued our determination throughout the game, right til the end. Redfield were a well drilled team who have had several seasons together and has been undefeated for two seasons. Boys, you did well to hold your own. The Coach from the opposition also passed on just how impressed he was our game and organisation.

We do however still need to work on stepping over in the ruck consistently each and every time. Driv-ing over in the ruck and cleaning out is something we also need to focus on, helping the team gain or maintain possession. Never give up boys and go in hard. More often than not the opposition is just a hesitant as you, so go in strong and show them

you mean business. This week at training don’t forget to tackle around the legs and go in hard with your shoulder.

We have a break for four weeks now before the next game. Enjoy the break and have a safe and happy holiday with your families and friends.

Best and Fairest Player Award:

3 points – Noah Stewart

2 points – Seb Plummer and Jesse Venner 1 point – Ellis Murray and Jack Jenkins

TRAINING: A reminder the under 10’s will NOT train on Friday afternoon this week.

CCGS Under 10

CCGS Under 9s v Coogee Prep Last weekend, the under 9s travelled to Pio-neers Park, Malabar to play Coogee Prep in the first game of the second round. Once again, all our players were there on time at 8:15am ready for Coach Dobbin ‘s warm up drills. Parents you are fantastic! Thank you for your commit-ment and support each week and at train-ing. The game started on time but without an official referee and touch judge – thank you to Jason Atherton and Mackenzie Holden for filling in. Unfortunately, the game went the same way as our first encounter with Coogee with CCGS being defeated. Having said this, the team played their best, displaying tenacity and sportsmanship.

This week, Coach Dobbin was highlighting the importance of entering the ruck in the correct way. Remember, when you enter the ruck you must come from behind your own players and “come through the gate”. If you don’t, a penalty may be awarded to the op-position. Try and work on this over the school break. Also work on ball handling, tackling and general fit-ness. At training this week, pay spe-cial attention to Coach, listen to his wise words and learn from his expe-rience.

Captain: Declan

Vice Captain: Jackson

Coaches Award: Austin (from training before

QB weekend)
