regular -ER verbs. These verbs followed a specific pattern. Endings for this group of verbs were all the same. Once you memorized the endings, you could conjugate ANY verb ending in –ER.

–IR. These verbs will also follow a pattern and have the same endings.
2. A second group of verbs are those ending in…
STEM + ENDINGS
The infinitive Have to be minus –ir. memorized.
3. La formule:
finir (to finish)1st Je finis Nous finissons2nd Tu finis Vous finissez3rd Il/Elle finit Ils/Elles finissent OnNOTE: All final consonants are silent!
4. Par exemple:
Les classes finissent à midi.
Ex. -
A. choisir = to chooseEx. – Quelle veste choisis-tu?
5. Les autres verbes:
Ex. - Philippe grossit parce qu’il mange beaucoup.
Nous grossissons parce que nous mangeons les gâteaux.
B. grossir = to gain weight; get fat
Ex. – Je maigris parce que je ne mange pas beaucoup.
C. maigrir = to lose weight; get skinny
Ex. – Tu réussis parce que tu es très intelligent.
D. réussir = to succeed
Ex. – Nous réussissons à nos examens.
E. réussir à un examen = to pass a test
Ex. – Je remplis les blanks avec les réponses.
F. remplir = to fill
Ex. – Pierre rougit quand elle dit <<Je t’adore>>!
G. rougir – to blush; turn red
Ex. – Ils bâtissent une maison en France.
H. bâtir = to build
Ex. – Vous applaudissez après le concert.
I. applaudir = to applaud
Ex. – Mes parents punissent mon frère.
J. punir = to punish
Ex. – Le petit garçon saisit la balle.
K. saisir = to seize; grasp
Ex. – L’avion atterrit à 17h00.
L. atterrir = to land
