Change graduation requirements beginning with the Class of 2016—current 6th grade students—as follows:
7
September 22 and 24
8
Feedback
Why is it still required? Good preparation for college Can senior project become a 10th and 11th
grade project?
9
What is the thinking behind adding geometry?
Are all students ready for algebra in 8th grade?
How do classes that require “application” fit in? Classes that ARE the word problems.
Need to identify alternate courses to math proficiency
Can we slow down 8th grade algebra into two one-year components?
When we talk about rigor for mathematics, is there time for application?
10
How do classes that require “application” fit in? Classes that ARE the word problems
Auto Physics as a science class, for instance. (Meets 9th grade science requirements)
3rd year of science?
11
Concerns about the reduction in elective credits elective credits from 80 to 65
Concerns that cognitive/application connection is missing
Suggestion that CTE could fill the gap How can we blend CTE with a-g? (Can we
view this as an opportunity?)
12
Technology component supports business community
Are there some existing classes that can meet this requirement? (CTE?)◦ Pre-Engineering?◦ Computer-Aided Drafting?◦ Graphic Arts?◦ Video Technology?
13
Technology
Ensure changes do not affect access to advance placement courses
Need a course on civics/ethics Can civics be added to World Geography? Students should be required to experience
community service
