Year 6 Leavers Speech.

Hi I’m Maddie,

When I was five I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. My answers were things like fairies and princesses but now that I’m a Year 6 my answers would be different.

One of my most favourite times was with Joy and Julie. I had so much fun.We did heaps of Science and Art and I really wanted to be a scientist that year. I loved it when we did lots of gardening, like the time when we planted the cactus and they grew from just one leaf. I still have mine at home. I’ve learnt that plants are just like humans, some can be shy, and some can be confident and stand out from a crowd.

In Year 4 it was so much fun playing soccer and when we had the plastic free day. I loved it when we got to go to UCOL and make heaps of muffins in their kitchens. It was so inspiring that it made me want to be a master chef.

Year 5. What a year! We had Whaea Maryanne. In her class we did really fun things and we were always laughing at her awesome sense of humour. One of the most memorable times was when we tried to beat Room 12 in soccer. This year has been amazing. One thing that I would remember forever would definitely be camp. I learnt at camp to give everything a go and don’t give up even if it’s really challenging.

One of the most challenging things at camp was running to the beach and back with Lou. Lou never realized how far we actually went.

Another thing I learnt was to overcome my fear at camp. There was so many wonderful and fearful activities, like the flying fox for example. High! Scary! But really fun!

All these years that I have been at Russell St I have made lots of friends and learnt heaps. One of the most important things is to always have a buddy with you whether you are feeling up or down.

So now when somebody asks me what I want to do when I grow up, I will have the confidence to say……

“I will do whatever I dream”

Lunch Speech I have had a great six years at Russell street school I am going to miss it but I will still have lots of memories that will last forever.  Some of these memories include pie or not to pie and Deb  pie-ing  me in the face.  Another great memory is raffle for a ride and when I won a ride in a ford f150.

I had 2 fantastic years in Debs class learning about all the amazing technology we have.  I learnt lots about the planets, spiders and how to make quizzes and cross words using hot potatoes. It was fun having our buddies from Whakarongo School come for the day and for them to see our school.

I had an awesome year last year in Lou's class learning about a wide variety of different things: We learned how to set up our own business and this wasn’t as easy as I thought.  We had to go to the bank and to the suppliers and we had to design and make all of our products.  We were responsible for advertising and hiring staff.  We came across real life problems such as the suppliers not having all the supplies we needed.  I had loads of money at the end and we had to pay our staff wages!Another highlight was building baking soda and vinegar bottle rockets and then seeing if they would land with a parachute on them but it did not work very well.  It was heaps of fun experimenting with designs and trying to meet Lou’s challenge of landing our rocket!

My time at Russell Street School has flown by and I can’t believe I am leaving to go to Intermediate.  It has been rewarding being able to have leadership responsibilities as a Year 6.  Being a road patroller has taught me lots of new skills and shown me the importance of road safety.

It has also been fun this year going to el rancho camp and doing lots of fun activates like kayaking, making bivouacs, orienteering, flying fox, mini golf, water slide, confidence course and the low ropes.

The best part of learning about science this year has been exploring what makes coke and mentos react.  I loved seeing the experiment Explode out of the bottle and some of the designs go higher than my head.

Term four has whizzed by faster than ever and what better way to spend term four than learning about and making a fast, aerodynamic CO2 car.

The teachers here are amazing and they all have different personalities and cool ways of teaching so thanks to all the teachers that have taught me it has helped me lots and it will help me lots more at intermediate.    So as I head off to intermediate, I would like to say thanks to David  the principal,as this is a great school and I will always have happy memories of my time here at Russell street school.
