    Your Graduation Ceremony22 26 July 2013

    Welcome to all graduating Students, Class of 2013!This booklet covers everything that you will need to know on the day of graduation.

  • Graduation 20132

    ArrivalAim to arrive at the Indoor Athletics Centre (IAC) at least an hour and a half before your ceremony (see map on back cover). Doors to the IAC will open for Registration two hours before each ceremony.

    Please note: Registration is for graduating students only!


    As you drive onto campus, you will be welcomed by a steward who will direct you to the designated parking area. Please ensure that you have your Graduation Parking Permit with you. There will only be one parking space allocated for each permit. No vehicle access onto campus will be allowed without a valid Graduation Parking Permit.

    Hoppa Bus

    A Hoppa Bus Service will be available throughout the day around campus. This is a free service that will take you and your guests from the car park to other areas and buildings on campus. There are no set pick-up or drop-off points to stop the Hoppa bus just hail the driver. One of the Hoppa buses will be wheelchair friendly.

    RegistrationOn arrival, head straight for the IAC to register. Here you will be given your ticket with your personalised seat number and any guest tickets that you have already paid for. You may choose to collect your gown and have a photograph before registering, but do check the timetable on page 7 and ensure you register in plenty of time - latecomers cannot be admitted to the ceremony. Remember, registration is for graduating students only, so your friends and family will need to wait outside. (Make sure you arrange a good meeting spot!)

    How do I buy extra tickets?

    If there are any extra tickets, they will be on sale at the Queries Desk in the IAC (next to the Registration Desk), once Registration has opened. Please note: any spare tickets will be sold (initially one per student) on a first-come, first-served basis at the usual rate of 25 per guest ticket.

    What if there are no spare tickets?

    Staff on the Queries Desk will be able to tell you about the live broadcast in the Lecture Centre and on the Quad, and other facilities on campus.

    GowningCollect your gown from Ede & Ravenscroft in the Sports Hall (see map on back cover). There will be signs there to guide you to the side entrance of the Sports Hall. You will need your ticket and gown reference number to collect your gown. Gown return will also take place in the Sports Hall.

    What if I havent ordered my gown?

    Ede & Ravenscroft should have some spare gowns, and you should be able to book and pay for one on the day. Get to the Sports Hall ASAP!


    PhotographsFor your official Graduation photograph, head to Ede & Ravenscroft in the Netball Hall.


    But dont worry, there will be further opportunities to have photographs taken with Ede & Ravenscroft in the Netball Hall, after the ceremony.

    The Ceremony

    When do I go into the Theatre?

    Doors to the Theatre (in the IAC) open one hour before the start of the ceremony. Students must be in the Theatre at least thirty minutes before the ceremony begins.

    When you are there, marshals will check that you are in the correct seat to collect your certificate, as well as brief you about the procedures during the ceremony.

    Please note: no food or drink is allowed in the IAC, except for bottled water.

    And my guests?

    Guests are able to take their seats an hour before the ceremony and should be seated at least ten minutes before the start. Ushers will be on hand to guide them to the designated guest-seating areas. (Once the ceremony has started, it will not be possible to let guests into the Theatre.)

    How long is the ceremony?

    Each ceremony should last no longer than 1.5 hours (depending on the number of students graduating).

    How can I find my guests after the ceremony?

    There will be a large Refreshments Marquee, opposite the Sports Centre, near the River Pinn (see back cover for map).

    There will be two meeting points: one by the side of the IAC and another by the Sports Centre.

    LATE ARRIvALSIt will not be possible to admit students or guests into the theatre once the ceremony has started, so please arrive in good time!

    Catering & RefreshmentsCelebrate graduation with your friends and family by joining us in the Refreshments Marquee, located between the IAC and River Pinn.

    If youre watching the ceremony from the Quad there will be a licensed bar and British favourite Fish & Chips.

    Costa, Metrobite, The Mezz, Subway and Locos will also be open during Graduation week, offering further choices.

    There will also be a Refreshment Free Marquee located next to the Arts Centre.

    Free celebratory drink for everyone!Dont forget all ticket-holding students and guests will receive a free glass of bubbly (or non-alcoholic equivalent) after their ceremony!

    Your complimentary drink will be served in the Refreshments Marquee.

    Note: Your voucher is your ticket stub, so keep this with you!

    Costa will be open from 7.30am - 8.00pm on the main concourse.

    Serving Costa coffee and a range of pastries, cakes, wraps and sandwiches. Special Offer: During Graduation Week buy a medium hot drink and a slice of cake for 3.50.

    The Mezz will be open from 12.00pm - 11.00pm, upstairs in the Hamilton Centre on the main concourse.

    Serving classic pub food, light bites and salads or try our gourmet burgers from the BBQ.

    As well as the usual facilities on campus, extra toilet facilities are available in the Sports Centre Car Park (see map on back of cover).

    Ceremony Live Stream

    There will be a live stream of the Graduation ceremonies in the Lecture Centre rooms D and E (Adults only).

    We are also hoping to broadcast each ceremony, live, on a large screen in the Quad.

    Cloakroom and Information Point

    Available outside the IAC.

    Prayer Facilities and Chaplaincy

    The Meeting House (home to Brunel University Chaplaincy) will be open each day from 9.30am to 4.00pm. People of all faiths are welcome to use the facilities. A Quiet Room will be available for those wishing to pray or needing a quiet place to sit.

    Muslim daily prayers are on the top floor of the Isambard Amenity Building. It is Ramadan during Graduation, Muslim students and guests will be breaking fast on the ground floor Isambard Amenity Building.

    Friday prayers will be held in the Isambard Amenity Building, using the top and middle floors.

    There is a Wash Facility in the portakabin near the Chadwick Building. Please do not use public washrooms for ablution.

    Whilst children are welcome on campus, there are no crche or childcare facilities. However those with kids can watch the ceremony either on the Quad or in a lecture theatre. Appropriate facilities for those with young babies will be provided.

    Please note that children younger than 7 will not be permitted into the Theatre at any time. Accompanied children are welcome to watch your ceremony, live, on screens inside or outside the Lecture Centre.

    No Smoking

    The University has a no smoking policy. Staff, students and visitors are required to observe this rule and only smoke in the Designated Smoking Areas and not near entrances into buildings.
