The future of audit is constantly evolving and innovation is an area of focus across the Audit & Advisory business. Our induction programme provides exciting opportunities to innovate, collaborate and grow with your new colleagues from day one. You will participate in the “The Audit Experience” where you will embark on your first audit engagement. This programme is a “real life” simulation of an audit.During your first days with the firm you will meet with your “Buddy” who will help you settle into life in a professional services environment, introduce you to your team, and answer any questions you may have.

What Happens Next?On completion of the induction programme you will join the team and begin working on your first audit. To further enhance your learning you will then return to our designated Learning Academy where you will attend a “Professional Education and Personal Development week”. The programme includes study skills & examination technique sessions, briefings, and practice workshops.

You will have significant responsibility from an early stage in your career delivering top quality work to our clients. As you progress through your training contract you will be responsible for coaching more junior team members and delegating work assigned by the audit manager. At Deloitte we place a key focus on leadership. From Trainee level we encourage leaders at all levels, enabling all our people to make an impact that matters.

Paths to Qualification Trainees within the Audit & Advisory practice complete the Chartered Accountants Ireland qualification (ACA). The ACA qualification comprises three sets of professional examinations: CAP1; CAP2; Final Admitting Exam (FAE).

Deloitte is committed to supporting our trainees through this course of study by providing on-the-job training to develop the competencies required of a Chartered Accountant and through our Professional Education support programme. This programme provides generous study leave, tutorials, mock examinations and additional internal support mechanisms to all trainees pursuing the ACA qualification.

Corporate taxCorporate tax comprises of:

• Financial services – provides advice to a broad range of financial services businesses offering a full range of tax services.

• Corporate & International tax – develops solutions for indigenous and multinational companies and advises companies on the tax impact of business reorganisations, mergers and acquisitions and financing structures.

Private clientsThe private clients business unit helps individuals build their personal wealth while maintaining a positive relationship with tax authorities, the work is varied and consultancy focused. The group also advises clients, both individuals and corporates, on all areas of capital gains tax, gift and inheritance tax and stamp duty. The tax specialists in this area have a strong legal background in addition to comprehensive tax knowledge.

Indirect tax (VAT)The indirect tax business unit advises both domestic and international clients on a broad range of transactions including cross border supply chains, business mergers and acquisitions, complex property transactions and tax compliance. It also assists clients in achieving competitive advantage, ensuring businesses have the robust and tax-sensitive processes, controls and systems needed to manage risk, and anticipate and respond to change.

Global Employer Solutions (GES)Global Employer Solutions (GES) advises companies and executives on employer and employee taxes ensuring compliance with tax legislation. It provides global mobility services to multinational companies advising on the tax and social security implications relating to employee assignments to different countries and

also provides immigration advice on the movement of staff between countries. The GES team works closely with the Deloitte global network. GES also provides advice on compensation and benefits, employee share incentive schemes and workforce restructuring programmes.

Transfer Pricing The transfer pricing business unit help companies manage risks by aligning practical transfer pricing solutions with companies overall global business operations and objectives, assist with strategic documentation to support transfer pricing practices and assist clients with tax authority dispute resolution matters. Our transfer pricing team is currently the International Tax Review Ireland transfer pricing firm of the year for 2016.

Why a career in Corporate Finance?Corporate finance offers a diverse and exciting training experience across a range of services where no two assignments are the same. From an early stage, trainees are dealing with senior level personnel in companies and are working on high profile transactions which are often highly confidential and complex in nature.

If you are interested in learning about the process of buying and selling companies, want to know how companies raise capital, debt or equity to fund growth, how to restructure a challenged business or how to perform detailed due diligence on behalf of lenders or buyers, then you should consider a career in corporate finance. Training in corporate finance offers a highly diversified training path, excellent career prospects across a range of service areas and the opportunity to develop professional skills which are much sought after in the marketplace.

So what’s the work like?The work experience for a trainee in corporate finance is very diverse and can change from day to day. A day working in corporate finance could involve any of the following activities;

• Carrying out an acquisition search for a potential M&A transaction

• Researching valuation multiples to advise a client on the value of a company

• Analysing the financial statements of a company as part of a due diligence

• Attending client meetings with colleagues

• Preparing a financial model for a client to assess the financial feasibility of a project

• Assisting clients to raise the necessary debt or equity finance required to fund projects

• Advising distressed companies on the restructuring options available to ensure their continued survival

• Managing insolvency processes such as a creditors voluntary liquidation

• Creating turnaround strategies on behalf of clients or their lenders

• Reviewing client accounts and records to determine if fraudulent activity is apparent

Learning and developmentThe training programme includes a mix of structured training sessions together with experience gained from working on actual assignments. Structured technical training sessions are available to you at each level of your training programme and include courses on due diligence, financial modelling, corporate finance, deal structuring, valuations and more. In addition, we also provide professional training, which focuses on developing the competencies required to become a professional advisor to clients such as management and leadership development. During your training contract you will work within one of our service lines working on challenging client assignments.

Paths to qualificationDeloitte is committed to ensuring graduates receive the assistance they require to complete their professional education. This includes offering substantial study leave, providing an internal study helpline and organising mock exams under Institute exam conditions.

Department breakdownCorporate finance advisoryWe provide a range of strategic advisory services to clients, including advice on acquisitions, disposals, capital raising, valuations, Public Private Partnerships, financial modelling and debt advisory. Our Transactions Services team also provide support to clients buying or selling a business with a focus on identifying transaction risks and factors impacting on value. Services include due diligence, advice on share purchase agreements and reports to support stock exchange listings.

Restructuring ServicesWe provide restructuring and reorganisation services to underperforming and financially troubled businesses, in addition to acting in a formal capacity as Examiner, Receiver and Liquidator.

Forensic and Dispute servicesWe provide advice on resolving shareholder disputes, breach of contract claims, investigating fraud and are frequently called upon to act as expert witness in court.

Exam supportThe demands of studying for and passing exams in college cannot be underestimated. You will have to adjust to working in a busy, professional office environment during the day and revert to the role of student in the evenings and at weekends (as well as finding time for a social life!). IMPACT DayIMPACT Day is Deloitte’s global initiative day where over 600 of our staff take part in a variety of volunteering projects and devote one working day to a project that has a direct and positive impact on society.

Business working responsibly markDeloitte was presented with the Business Working Responsibly mark. The mark is a fitting endorsement of the best practices we have in place in the areas of HR, the environment, customer relationship management, marketing, corporate social responsibility and indeed how we do business overall.

Nurture Africa Each year our people have the opportunity to take part in a two week volunteering placement with Nurture Africa in Uganda. During the trip our team puts their professional skills to use with community based organisations in Uganda through capacity building and empowering the local organisations.

Junior AchievementDeloitte volunteer with Junior Achievement through the participation in the School Partnership Programme and Mock Interview Sessions.

Early Learning InitiativeThe Early Learning Initiative was developed to address the problem of educational underachievement in marginalised communities. Deloitte volunteers continue to support career mentoring and school project judging throughout the year.

Fundraising Each year, Deloitte matches the funds donated by our people in a firm-wide appeal on behalf of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Christmas as well as fundraising for charities and organisations such as Movember, Walk in my Shoes and Daffodil Day.

Green agendaThe Green Agenda initiative is a key component of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme. Undergraduate Opportunities

Whatever stage you’re at in your studies, there are lots of ways to find out what’s right for you! Deloitte offers a range of programmes for students who are not graduating this year, but are interested in gaining some real life work experience. Through our undergraduate programmes we offer the opportunity to participate in our world class learning and development programmes, ongoing social events, co-op and intern IMPACT Day, innovation challenges, the global project challenge and our new Showcase Insight Series which gives students an insight into different areas of Deloitte!

Summer internship programmeWe have over 80 summer internship opportunities annually. Students have the option to apply for 6 weeks, 12 weeks or a rotation (2 six week periods in different service areas) in most departments from June until August gaining real exposure to client work.

Co-operative work placement programmeThe Co-operative work placement programme offers students real life work experience as part of their degree course. Placement periods generally range from 6-9 months and we work in conjunction with a number of colleges in Ireland to facilitate this.

Deloitte development daysOur Deloitte development days enable you to find out more about some of the key skills that will help you launch a successful career no matter what career path you take. Our development day covers learning styles, team building, leadership skills and networking.

Global project challengeThe Global Project Challenge is a truly unique opportunity for you to join our virtual network – and you don’t need your passport to do it! As part of the Deloitte summer internship programme, 10 students have the opportunity to take part in the global projects experience. This involves working in virtual teams to complete a project set by a project sponsor.

How to apply

We only accept applications online, see the steps you need to take below:

01. Apply Select “Apply now” and click on the position you wish to apply for

02. Register To access the application form you will first need to register as a user, which will involve creating a username and password:

– Username: your username should be unique to you – we recommend that you use your email address as your username

– Password: your password should contain both numbers and letters and must contain at least six characters This creates a unique profile that will be available to you for subsequent applications or for updating your details, making the process much faster.

Please ensure that you write and store your password in a secure place. Every time you log onto our system you will be required to enter your username and password.

03. Gather documentation Please ensure that before commencing your application you have a copy of your CV, Leaving Cert (or equivalent) results and college results, as these will be required.

04. Complete your application As part of the application form you will be requested to indicate which service line you would like to join, including the professional qualification you would like to pursue. Additionally, you will be asked to confirm whether you would like to join Direct Entry (2016) or Postgraduate Entry (2017).

You can complete your application form when it’s convenient for you! You can “Save as Draft” your application; to do this; you will first have to complete the page of the section you are on. If you wish to edit or review your application, you can log in and out of the system as many times as you like before the closing date. You can do this by hitting the ‘Apply online’ button again and logging in as a returning user, using your username and password. Please note: to fully complete your application you will be required to select “Submit” at the end of the application.

05. Next steps Once we receive your completed application, you will receive an automated acknowledgement letting you know that your application has been received. You will not be able to respond to this automated email. Once the closing dates have passed, we will review all applications and contact you to let you know the status of your application.

06. Interview process Should you be successful after completing our application process you will be invited to attend a competency based interview. In the interview you’ll be asked to think of examples from your personal history that demonstrate required competencies, including team working ability, problem solving skills, communication skills, commercial awareness, amongst others.

When providing answers to competency based questions remember the star framework: Situation: summarise the situation in one line Task: explain what the actual task was that you had to complete Action: give lots of information on what action YOU took (not the team, not “we”) in order to achieve the task Result: what was the outcome or lessons learnt?
