A significant number of students did not understand the meaning and consequences of plagiarism, existence of plagiarism policies and plagiarism detection systems, so an extensive plagiarism literacy program is the minimum every university should start with immediate effect
Students plagiarize when under pressure, therefore faculty should allocate reasonable research work
It is strongly recommended to organize seminars, workshops and symposia to educate students about plagiarism, its consequences and tools and techniques to avoid it and fair publishing
There is a need of focused agenda for HEC and universities to eliminate plagiarism from our universities
Evidences of the study lead to recommend offering full-fledged courses on research ethics and plagiarism in our universities
We need to build students’ belief in effectiveness of faculty/universities in detection and penalties for plagiarism
Formulate clear and transparent university ethics and plagiarism policies both for students and faculty and publicize them
Establish plagiarism monitoring committees and make them effective
Promote the use of software such as for detection and management
of plagiarism
Promote the use of citation management tools such as , etc.
Help students enhance their research, writing and referencing and publishing skills through establishing writing centers
Set a climate where academic integrity is valued
Design thoughtful assignments/research projects
Be conscious and create consciousness for research ethics
Create awareness about intellectual integrity and reputation of individuals, institutions and Pakistan
Define and discuss with students what plagiarism is?
Include a plagiarism policy (in line with HEC guidelines) in your syllabi
Determine students’ level of knowledge in paraphrasing, citing, summarizing and using style manuals
Review research process and note-taking techniques
Observe and educate students to respect copyright laws
