The MS degree has three options: 1) Thesis: requires the completion of 30 semes- ter credit hours, including a 6-credit hour thesis 2) Creative Component - Independent Study: requires the completion of 33 credit hours and a 3-credit hour independent study project 3) Creative Component - Course Work: requires the completion of 33 semester credit hours of course work. A Ph.D. degree is designed for the student who desires to participate at the leading edge of knowledge in the IEM profession. The degree requires the completion of a) a minimum of 90 credit hours beyond a bachelor’s degree or b) a minimum of 60 credit hours beyond a MS. This also includes a minimum of 18 credit hours of dissertation research and 6 credit hours of research methodology or tools. Admission Requirements Graduation from an IE program with scholastic performance distinctly above average, qualifies the student for admission to IEM at OSU as a candidate for a master’s or Ph.D. degree. Graduates from related disciplines may be admitted if an evalua- tion of their transcripts and supporting materials indicates they are prepared to take IE graduate-level course work, or can be expected to do so after a reasonable amount of prerequisite work. All applicants must submit GRE scores and secure a minimum of 145 in verbal reasoning and 160 in quantitative reasoning. Those who are required to submit TOEFL scores by the Graduate College must secure a minimum score of 79. Financial Aid Graduate teaching and research assistantships are available from IEM but are competitive and awarded to highly qualified individuals. It is based on scholastic performace, special techni- cal skills and standardized test scores. Students who are awarded an assistantship will receive a tuition waiver and health insurance benefits. MS and Ph.D. candidates with exceptional academic records may be considered for financial aid upon admission into the IEM graduate program. All international students seeking a TA position must pass the ITA exam adminis- tered by the English department or score a 26 or higher TOEFL speaking score.
