After years of tension and informality theworld is turning again to the gracious in
life—soft lights, muted violins, the sense of
well-being engendered by formal clothes.
But it still desires the virile life to whichit has become accustomed. In the famous
Canadian Pacific resorts, Banff SpringsHotel and Chateau Lake Louise, both
desires can be attained.
Outdoors in the Canadian Rockies life can
be rugged as you wish. Indoors, gracious
living, with all the refinements of an
intelligent civilization, comes naturally
in settings designed for dignified luxury.

Banff Springs Hotel
Heart of the mountains from which i t was quarried,
Banff Springs Hotel dominates a highland barony. Majestic
and stately in appearance, i t radiates hospitality.
Nobly proportioned, its halls, dining rooms, parlours. library,
and ball-rooms are gracious settings for fashionable gowns
and gleaming shirt-fronts.
Every suite, every bed-room, commands a panorama of
mountain and valley, of golf course and riding trail—each itself
an integral part of the unforgettable scenery.
GalleryReminiscent ot a leisured, luxurious, earlier day,
Mount Stephen Hall is the scene of many a bri l l iant
gathering. Here, after a day of mountain informality
on the trail, in the saddle, or the warmed faintly
sulphured swimming pool, "white-ties", dinner-jacketsand creations of famous couturiers lend colour to the
formal Gothic architecture.
Chamber music and song, bright conversation, life in
its most gracious aspects—these typify this
magnificent room, its cloister walk and grilled gallery.
Every holiday activity, driving, mountain-climbing, riding on
sure-footed mountain ponies, tennis, golf, swimming, sun-bathing,
canoeing, boating, fishing—can be enjoyed during your stay at Banff.
Even at the confluence of the Spray and Bow Rivers, under the very
front windows of the hotel, ardent dry-fly casters sometimes reap
a sporty reward.

Many-windowed, high-ceilinged, Spanish in influence and decor, this room is
noted for the cosmopolitan quality of its meals and service. The luxury that
is the keynote of Banff Springs Hotel is well represented in this spacious
room where royal guests have dined.
Even in its carefree moments Banff is a
fashion artist's mecca. On the fairways,
the courts or in the pools are to be seen
the smartest in holiday wear.
Water from the natural springs of
well-named Sulphur Mountain, piped in
at just the right temperature, supplies
both indoor and outdoor pools—bright
sunshine and crisp highland air invite
sunbathing.
Bring your tennis racket. In
the shadow of the hotel fast.
well-kept courts cater to all
types of players. And onlytwo minutes walk from the
courts are the swimming
pools for a freshener after
the game.
In public or private Banff Springs Hotel
is noted for its appointments. The Ball
Room, gracious as a Regency drawing
room, is a rendezvous of fashion—
mostly formal. Suites, tasteful as private
homes, invite intimate entertainment.
As evening draws in the many public
rooms take their places in the social
scheme. There is chamber music and
song, the quiet of library or reading room,
table tennis for the strenuous, or dancing.
"Ace" or "Dub", golf's possibilities are an unknown quantity until you
have played the links at Banff. Designed by Stanley Thompson, the
IS-hole course is a scenic delight—a player's challenge.
The course stretches down the Bow Valley, sheltered by Mount Rundle,
Tunnel Mountain, and overlooked by the "Hoodoos". From the moment
you drive across the purling Spray River u n t i l - 6 7 0 4 yards later—
you hole out at the 18th you make new discoveries. And mile-high golf
sharpens the appetite as well as your skill. Luncheon or tea awaits you
in the clubhouse and, on your way back to dress for dinner, you can
stop in for a plunge in the pool.
