Grace Christian School February 2015
Believe it or not, it is time to begin planning for the
2015 - 2016 School Year. Re- enrollment will be opened up to our current families during
the month of February and packets will be sent home with students during the first week. Please be sure to take advantage of re-enrolling during this time to ensure your child’s placement
for next year. In addition, the re-enrollment fee is $100. However, the fee increases as of March 1st, which is also when
enrollment will be opened up to outside families.
If you have a student who has a younger sibling who will be
ready for the
Transitional
Kindergarten or
Kindergarten
program in the fall, please stop by the school office to pick up the application for enrollment.
That paperwork should be turned in as soon as possible as we already have a waiting list!
For more information, or to find additional registration forms to share with family and friends, you can go to gcsrr.org and check out the information on the website or check out the Camp Oasis Facebook page.
Summer means school is out for 11 weeks! Nothing spoils summer more than bored kids!
One sure way to beat summer boredom is Camp Oasis.
It is definitely the place to be…and there will be no time to be bored.
Registration forms for Camp Oasis went home last week with students! If you get your registration form in between January 29th and February 6th, you can sign up for 2 weeks and
get the third half off! What a deal!! And what’s even better, you don’t need to specify
which weeks at this time…simply get your registration and fees turned in! You can confirm dates as you finalize your own
summer plans!
Camp Oasis…held right here on our GCS campus…is a safe place for kids to hang out
with their friends, meet new friends, participate in lots of hands on activities, go on field trips
and so, so much more. As we draw closer and closer more of the
exciting activities planned will be revealed. Camp Oasis is open to GCS students as well as
other families in the community.

It’s time to put on your running shoes
and start preparing for
Race for Grace.
Believe it or not it is just 7 weeks away!!
Be sure to mark your calendar for
Friday, March 20th…

your student and all of the GCS
families…
it is a family fun event you won’t
want to miss!
As you know, we have been collecting
entries for the
Race for Grace
t-shirt design contest.
There are many very creative entries and
it will not be easy to select a winner.
Students will have the opportunity to
vote on their favorite design this week.
The winning design will then be
revealed at the Talent Show
February 27th.
The Kickoff Assembly will be Thursday, February 26th in the afternoon.
At that time students will learn all they need to know about Race for Grace,
incentive prizes, and turn in dates.
Each student will also be sent home with packets so that parents will be informed as well!

serve their special menu item.

students and will meet
Mondays and Tuesdays from
3:15 to 4:15pm.

the teacher to a classroom.

ACSI Honor Band
If you were lucky enough to have been at the Christmas Program, you are well
aware of the incredible instrumental talents of the students at GCS under the
leadership of some very gifted musicians and teachers!
Many of our instrumental students have the opportunity to be a part of an
Honor Band sponsored by ACSI. Those students will join musicians from several other Christian schools, rehearse,
and then share what they have learned in 2 performances.
The first performance will be Friday, February 27th at 1st Baptist Church of
Lakewood. The second performance will be Saturday, February 28th at
Knott’s Berry Farm.
An additional opportunity was made available to those more advanced students. These students were required to learn a
number of very difficult scales and pieces of music; they were then recorded and had their recording sent off to be judged.
Three of our GCS students were selected to participate in an elite Junior High Honor Band…
Emma Hills, Jonathan Kim, and Abigail Meade. These students will spend 2 full days in rehearsal with other advanced
musicians who have been selected and will then perform Friday, February 5th at 1st Baptist Church of Lakewood.
Grace Christian School February 2015
6th grade students went on 2 field trips in January!
They were able to visit the Pompeii Exhibit at the California Science Center to further their understanding
of their Social Studies curriculum.
They also went to see a production of “The Little Mermaid” at Millikan High School…featuring one of their
very own…Emma Hills. 2nd grade Gracelynn Manzanarez was also in the production!
8th
grade students
have been studying American History.
As an extension of those studies, they
had the opportunity to visit the
Ronald Reagan
Presidential Library.
Each 4th grade student dressed up and delivered memorized speeches about the lives of some very famous folks…like Neil Armstrong, Galileo, Rosa Parks, Clara Barton, Albert Einstein, Milton Hershey, Hellen Keller,
General McAurthur, Cleopatra, and William Penn.
Grace Christian School February 2015
We had a guest speaker in Chapel January 8th, Ms. Angela. She reminded students that there are all
kinds of love…love for family, love for friends, love for teachers. No matter what kind of love it is, it came
from God. And that love is so big that it extends all the way to heaven. She reminded us that Jesus wants us to
love our neighbors…and more importantly to love and pray for our enemies. Jesus is our example…
He is loving and shows that love to all people…and we should be loving, too!
The Jazz Band from Valley Christian School came to perform for us in Chapel in January. They performed several pieces for us and had students snapping, clapping, and on their feet! It was an
extra special treat as 5 former Grace Christian School students were a part of the Jazz Band… Josh Lange, Jacob Lange, Caleb Granch, Matt Taylor and Dwight Siyluy.
Thank you Jazz Band for reminding us about the joy that music brings and that it is not only a gift from the Lord but a way to worship Him as well.
Our very own Mr. Keddy was a guest speaker in chapel January 22nd. He, and a few students selected to help him
out, shared the story from Daniel, chapter 3 about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. In this story, these men had the
courage to stand up to the king and demonstrate their faith in the One True God (what an amazing story…if you
don’t know it, take the time to read it!). Mr. Keddy challenged the students to stand tall and strong, to live their lives faithfully, and to never compromise what they know to
be true of our God.
Grace Christian School February 2015
Pastor Jeremy, a friend of Mr. Nishimoto, was our guest speaker January 29th. Pastor Jeremy asked if the students
knew God’s phone number…and how to get in touch with Him. God may not have a phone, but according to Romans 10, all
can call on the name of the Lord. We don’t need a number…just a name! We need only to dial J-E-S-U-S and we will be connected to God! We never have to worry about a broken phone, or not having a signal…there is never a time or place that we can’t get in touch with God. Pastor Jeremy also asked students if they ever felt as if no one was listening to
them. Jeremiah 29:12 says , “Then you will call upon me…and I will listen to you.” Because God loves us, he wants to listen to
us…we can never be disconnected. What an incredible promise He has given us!!
Our next Character Trait Chapel will be Thursday, February 19th. Remember, this is when teachers take the opportunity to recognize students with a specific character trait
that is demonstrated consistently by a student throughout daily activities as well as in the classroom. Students whose last names begin with A through G will be honored this month.
