  • *As a major city in the Pearl River Delta, one of the nations economically faster-growing regions, Zhuhai is a garden city, with clean air and beautiful scenery. Most of parks in Zhuhai are free of charge.

In order to boost local hi-tech industry and tourism, Zhuhai focuses chiefly on light industry. Thus, the citys electronics, and communications devices grow at a fast pace. Zhuhai is a young and active city, modern and fashionable. Strolling along the beach, listening to the voice of waves crashing on the shore would be the most relaxing things.

  • Summer here can be very long and hot. T-shirts and shorts are suggested.

Winter here is humid and cool.Never snowed. A warm overcoat is needed.*22.3C2.5C38.7CZhuhai is a warm and mild city. It rains a lot in summer, from May to September. Better bring an umbrella.

  • 1 USD = 6.47 CNY (approximately)

You can draw your money out from ATM, but you need to ask the bank that issued your credit card about which Chinese bank your credit card can draw money from.

Currency Exchange: At airport and banks. Bank of China is recommended. They usually do exchange between USD and CNY, so you need to bring enough US Dollar in case your credit card doesnt work here.

  • ATM in China

Its easy to find an ATM machine in China, especially at the airport and train stations. We suggest you draw some Chinese currency from the ATM as soon as you land. You will see the familiar networks like Visa, Master Card, etc.. Instructions will be available in English.

Banks will normally levy a service charge, it can be a fixed minimum like US$3 while some banks charge a percentage of the amount withdrawn. You can inquire at your bank before you come to China. *

  • Paying with credit cards

Credit Cards are not yet widely accepted in China other than at hotels and international restaurants, and the larger shopping centers. You will need cash for just about everything else: taxis, small shops and restaurants, ticket counters, etc.

If you plan to use your credit card, be sure to alert the bank back home and let them know you will be traveling abroad and the dates of your trip to prevent them from blocking your account when they see any "foreign transactions" which could be suspicious or "outside of normal range of activity.*

  • *Its difficult to find a Muslim restaurant in Zhuhai, so if you have anything that you dont want to eat due to any reasons, youd better inform the waiter/waitress before ordering.

Tap water is NOT drinkable. But you can buy bottle water in stors or supermarkets easily. Some of the local people may like to drink boiled water(a little bit hot), if you mind this, youd better tell your host family in advance.

Fees for food and drinks should be paid by yourselves.

  • *In China, most of the citizen dont understand English, only a few of highly-educated people do. So we strongly recommend you to download a translation application in your phone.

Our Chinese buddies will assist you in your daily life. • *(xi shou jian)Excuse me, could you please tell me where is the restroom/toilet?Excuse me, do you speak English?

(bu ming bai)Sorry, I dont understand.

(ni hao)Hello, nice to meet you!

(duo shao qian)How much is it?

(pian yi dian)Can you give me this for cheaper? (Ji Chang) Airport (Gong Jiao Zhan) Bus station (Xue Xiao) School (Shang Chang) Shopping mall

  • How to get to Zhuhai

The first way is what we strongly suggest, which is that you take an airplane which directly flies to Zhuhai airport. Zhuhai Airport is located in the West Zhuhai, 31 kilometers away from the urban areas. It would be convenient.

The other one is to fly to Guangzhou/Hongkong/Macaau, and then transfer for a bus (or ferry) to Zhuhai, which will cost some time and money.

For either way, airport pick-up service is provided.*

  • Internal transportation In Zhuhai

The starting time of the first buses mostly vary from 6~7AM. Most of the buses have no conductor, so if you dont get a bus IC card, you'd better prepare some change before getting on one. The charge is CNY 2~3 per person.

We can buy a bus IC card for you at cost of CNY 70 (CNY 20 for a flat cost of the card, charged by the bus company, and CNY 50 is what you can use to take a bus)

A Zhuhai taxi charges CNY10 for the first three kilometers, and CNY2.4 for each extra kilometer. *

  • *Electricity in Chinais 220 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. The standard wall plug in most households in China has a grounding pin and two power conducing pins in a V-shape.

So whenbringing electrical appliances to China, or devices that require recharging, you need to determine what kind of voltage your devices function under, and whether you will beneeding a converter.

If your device's electrical plug has a different shape from this one, youmay need an electrical adapter.

  • You may refer to this website just for reference:http://www.china-family-adventure.com/travel-packing-list.html#.U2PrQY2BTdw

Passport, visas, related health certificates, tickets, ID, cash, credit card, map, itinerary and other important documents needed.

Make a card upon which are your personal details in case of emergency.

Make copies for your important materials, especially your passport copy which you will need when you exchange money. It is strongly recommended that you additionally store a backup of your information in your email account or other on-line storage.

Do bring your power convert or an adapt plug. *

  • *Do not pack important items unprotected; put them into a waterproof bag to prevent damage. Do not carry too much money all in one place, spread it around your pockets.

Do remember to prepare some drugs for emergency use, including Aspirin, vitamins, etc.

Do take along your medical history (Blood Group, Allergies, and Known Medical Conditions) and keep it with you.

Do not carry excessive quantities of drugs; you may encounter problems at China Customs.

Do not bring a pharmacy, just bring the essentials.

  • *Looking for a clean bathroom when you most need it can be a challenge in China. Your best bet will be at hotels and western style restaurants. When you see one, use it, don't wait until the situation gets desperate.

Always bring toilet paper with you. Some places have one big roll at the entrance, but this is hit or miss. Be safe.

Many toilet in China is squat toilet, yes, the "hole on the ground" one. In case some of you dont know how to use it, here we would briefly introduce some tips.Video teaching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV-ieJ7F0SU

  • Don't carry anything in your hands but toilet paper, there might not be a place to put a purse or camera so leave that with someone else.

If you're wearing long pants, roll them. The wet stuff down there might not be water...

Stand with your feet apart, facing away from the hole. The feet go in the "grids" on both sides of the toilet. Push pants and underwear down, a bit past your knees. Skirts are easier, just lift and keep away.

Lower yourself to a squat position, as far down as you can go, try to maintain your balance and do your business...*

  • *Internet and WI-FI

Wi-Fi is not widely used in public area here, so if you want to get a convenient access to the Internet, we suggest that you buy and use a local cell phone SIM card. There is free Wi-Fi atthe airports, large shopping malls. You will need to get the code from the attendants.

Normally free internet is provided in at your accommodation, but may not be at your room if you lodge with a host family.

Also note that many of the social media sites such asFacebook or Twitter are NOT accessible in China.Viber, WeChat and WhatsApp(so far) do work.

If you use the Cloud, check that your app is not blocked in China to make sure you will be able to get to your documents.Dropbox and Google Drive are blocked in China. Better to have a backup plan.

  • *Getting a China SIM Card

You can buy a prepaid SIM card in China yourself, or we can buy one for you in advance and bring it to you when we pick you up at your arrival. The price of a SIM Card is estimated to be CNY 55.

To make sure youget the right size SIM cardfor your phone. Please inform us the size of your SIM card.

Download a Wechat (an APP) on your phone so that we can chat =)

  • *In general, Zhuhai is a safe and friendly city. However, it is infested with pickpockets, especially in the crowded shopping areas and on buses. Youd better keep an eye on your belongings and never let relaxation distract you.

    Emergency call:Police: 110Fire: 119Ambulance: 120
