Issue 3 Term 1 Monday 17 February 2020
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
OUR P AND C NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT
Thank you to everyone for the support you give the school.
Have you ever wondered what being a member of the P and C means?
TONIGHT our P and C meets for the first time in 2020
Our P and C meets EVERY THIRD MONDAY at 7:00 PM during term time.
With a few hard working, long time members moving onto high school, we wanted to let you know how vital a working P and C is to any school.
A P and C member can be any parent or community member. At the moment, a small group of parents are assisting with recruiting a new Principal for West in Term Two. Such important work.
P and C members assist the school with ideas on policy and management, assist with equipment, promote the school in the community and support with a P and C run canteen, Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ day stalls, clothing pool and working bees.
Being a P and C member doesn’t mean you have to come to all meetings, or always do a job.
It’s the best way to support your child’s school and have your say on all aspects of school.
You’d be very welcome!

Welcome back West community! Tonight, Monday 17th at 7pm
our P&C will be holding the first meeting of the year in the
Staffroom. We are in GREAT NEED of any and all parents who
are able to attend. Our small dedicated team is even smaller
this year, with last years amazing President and Treasurer
leaving the school. Without new and returning parents, the
P&C will struggle to run meetings this year - which means ALL
students and families will miss out on projects we have run
over a number of years. I welcome and urge a fresh group of
parents willing to be involved in our wonderful school to come
along and join us tonight - West needs YOU!

Random Acts of Kindness Week (also known as RAK Week) is observed
from February 16.
“First and foremost, we need to be the adults we want our children to be. We should
watch our own gossiping and anger. We should model the kindness we want to see.”
- Brene Brown
To help encourage our students to be kinder people; to others and also to themselves,
we will be taking part in RAK Week this year. Students might come home talking about
things they can do to show kindness, there will be talk at school, lessons and perhaps
even some homework based around being kind. Kindness costs nothing, but means
everything and the ripple effect of our actions towards others will have significance
further into the future than we will see. Choose kindness.
Payments at the school office are
cash only or via the school website.
Please label all envelopes with
child’s name, class and what the
payment is for.

This year Goulburn West students will again be using the digital learning
journal Seesaw. Seesaw allows students to independently document what
they are learning at school. Students capture learning with photos and
videos of their work, or by adding digital creations. As a parent you have
access to your own child’s journal (no other parent will have access to
any other child’s personal journal) and the class newsfeed. Parents al-
ready connected to a student journal from last year will continue to be
connected in their child’s new classroom. If you no longer wish to be con-
nected or wish for your child not to participate on this platform please let
your class teacher or the office staff know as soon as possible. If you have
any questions please contact Megan Kehlet at school on 48211781.

Tae Kwon-Do Championships
On Saturday, Goulburn Martial Arts Academy hosted the CHIFT NSW Championships
here locally at the Veolia Arena. Massive turnout of competitors and spectators and
a wonderful day all round.
There was some tough competition from some of the Sydney clubs but all our westie
boys have trained hard for this tournament and when Saturday came around it was
lovely to see them all participate, support/cheer, achieve and be proud team mem-
bers.
Tae Kwon – Do is a sport that teaches not only the art of hand and foot techniques
but respect, manners and self-esteem. We are all very proud parents of our children,
they were all tired and a little sore yesterday.
