/ Term 2 13 May 2021 Week 4 We would like to welcome Aaron Gupta and his family to our school. Aaron is in Kindergarten and has moved to Goulburn from Adelaide. I’m sure you would agree that the school hall looked like a real art gallery for our annual Operation Art afternoon. The quality and diversity of work by all students was amazing. Thank you to all those parents who were able to come and support this event. The bake stall was a great success, and this added to the vibe of the afternoon. NAPLAN is on for Years 3 and 5 during the next two weeks. All the assessments are online except for the Year 3 writing which is still completed by pen and pencil. This week, students in Years 4-6 have completed an online survey called ‘Tell Them From Me’. The students were asked a variety of questions, from participation in sports and extra-curricular activities, their sense of belonging, homework behaviour, positive relationships and attitude and perseverance. The ‘Tell Them From Me’ student survey provides the school with insights into student engagement, wellbeing and effective teaching practices at school, from the perspective of students. The school is having some major upgrades over the next few months. You may have noticed we have a new electronic sign, which was installed earlier this week. We would like to thank Veolia Mulwaree Trust for assisting us with this project. It will make such a difference as the old sign was very hard to read. The roof on the Kindergarten room will be transformed from tiles to Colorbond. This work will commence after school on Friday 14 May, when scaffolding will be brought in and erected. The job should only take a few days and the Kindergarten class will be moved to another room during this process. The hall will be receiving a much needed face lift, with new stage flooring, upgraded lighting and painting. Our school photos were taken last week, but due to the rain we were unable to get a whole school photograph. The photographers will return sometime this term to take this photo. We will let you know the date once this has been organised. The Mother’s Day stall was a great success. The quality and variety of items to purchase was well received by the students and I am sure all the mothers appreciated their gifts. Term 2 13 May 2021 Week 4

We would like to welcome Aaron Gupta and his family to our school.

Aaron is in Kindergarten and has moved to Goulburn from Adelaide.

I’m sure you would agree that the school hall looked like a real art

gallery for our annual Operation Art afternoon. The quality and

diversity of work by all students was amazing. Thank you to all those

parents who were able to come and support this event. The bake stall

was a great success, and this added to the vibe of the afternoon.

NAPLAN is on for Years 3 and 5 during the next two weeks. All the

assessments are online except for the Year 3 writing which is still

completed by pen and pencil. This week, students in Years 4-6 have

completed an online survey called ‘Tell Them From Me’. The students

were asked a variety of questions, from participation in sports and

extra-curricular activities, their sense of belonging, homework

behaviour, positive relationships and attitude and perseverance. The

‘Tell Them From Me’ student survey provides the school with insights

into student engagement, wellbeing and effective teaching practices

at school, from the perspective of students.

The school is having some major upgrades over the next few months.

You may have noticed we have a new electronic sign, which was

installed earlier this week. We would like to thank Veolia Mulwaree

Trust for assisting us with this project. It will make such a difference as

the old sign was very hard to read. The roof on the Kindergarten room

will be transformed from tiles to Colorbond. This work will commence

after school on Friday 14 May, when scaffolding will be brought in and

erected. The job should only take a few days and the Kindergarten class

will be moved to another room during this process.

The hall will be receiving a much needed face lift, with new stage

flooring, upgraded lighting and painting.

Our school photos were taken last week, but due to the rain we were

unable to get a whole school photograph. The photographers will

return sometime this term to take this photo. We will let you know the

date once this has been organised.

The Mother’s Day stall was a great success. The quality and variety of

items to purchase was well received by the students and I am sure all

the mothers appreciated their gifts. Thank you to the P&C for

organising and running this activity for the students.

A police check is required and is paid for by Meals on Wheels.

You have a choice between Goulburn South, North, Centre and Centre 2 runs. You can volunteer weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

For more information please phone the President of Meals on Wheels Goulburn, Michael Parsons on 0415 170 297.

Operation Art

Last Friday, 65 students from Years 2-6 attended a music day at the Hume Conservatorium. Students

were able to participate in a variety of activities, including learning about and playing the ukulele,

listening to how string instruments can be played and having a try at playing the cello. Students also

learnt about dynamics and tempo and created their own musical patterns. They also made cool and

funky melodies using boom whackers. Thank you to the Hume Conservatorium for making this day

so entertaining and hands on.

District Cross Country

All last week the conveners of the District Cross Country watched the skies and all that fell was rain and

more rain. The PSSA calendar and school’s calendar were already booked for the next month so the

carnival had to go ahead.

The track was very heavy and, in some spots, very muddy, but after students walked the track they knew

where the high ground was and areas to be careful. After the races our Goulburn East runners were all

smiles even though they had mud in their socks, up the backs of their legs and on the backs of their

shirts.

Charlotte, Charlie, Ruby and Ethan will be representing Goulburn East at the Regional Cross Country on

the 11 June in Cambewarra. Layla and Lucy are reserves for the District Team. Our students were well

supported by our fantastic community who braved the weather and spent the day cheering on all our

students. Well done Goulburn East students and community.

NSW PSSA Soccer Knockout Competition

Last Thursday, Goulburn East participated in the NSW PSSA Soccer Knockout Competition. We played

boys and girls teams from Goulburn West. It was a wet and cold day, perfect for soccer! The boy’s

game was first, with all the players giving their all. It was a tough match and we quickly gave away

some goals. By half time we were losing 3 nil. As second half progressed we had the wind at our backs

and managed to claw back 2 goals. Unfortunately, they got one more goal resulting in a 4 – 2 defeat.

A special mention has to go to Chase for some fantastic goalkeeping, he saved many goals this game!

The weather turned bad as the girls began their game. Goulburn East never stopped running and trying

to score. We had some chances especially in the 2nd half but we were unable to score. Despite the girls

trying their absolute best, they were defeated by Goulburn West. Two special mentions from that game

were Lucy and Charlotte. Both of these girls never stopped attacking!

Well done to all players who competed on the day. You represented the school with pride and great

manners. We are proud of you!

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON

FRIDAY 14 MAY 2021

Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more

walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school

isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s

daily routine.

You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:

• Walking with them the whole way to school

• If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop

• If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest

of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems

like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a

great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.

Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey

for Friday 14 May 2021!
