The Easter Hat Parade held on the Thursday prior to the break was very special with everyone involved embracing the spirit of the occasion irrespective of the cultural or religious significance of this very special occasion in the Christian calendar. The Ecumenical Service conducted the previous Wednesday also celebrated the occasion in a very child centred manner and certainly enthralled all children in attendance. It is beautiful how the school community can come together in celebration and enjoyment on such occasions. Thank you to Ms Wolujewicz and her team of helpers for so efficiently organising the Easter Hat Parade. The very large audience of parents, grandparents and family friends was also treated to performances by members of our school string and brass band ensembles. Congratulations to Mrs Walmsley and Concert Band 1 on their three beautiful renditions of Highlights of Greece, Defying Gravity and Raider’s March. The quality of performance was of such a high standard if one closed their eyes one could have been listening to professional musicians. Congratulations to the twenty five members of the Gordon West string group on their presentation of Folk Tune, Click Go the Shears and Old MacDonald. This is the second year that Mr Nurlanov has conducted this group and their progress has been remarkable. We now plan to organise after school tutorials for members of the string ensemble as is the case for members of the 4 school brass bands.

Concert Band 1, Concert Band 2 and the Jazz Band will spend next weekend at Vision Valley Arcadia where they will have the opportunity to further refine their skills in preparation for the lunch time band concert to be held next week. A big thank you to Ms Zeiba, Miss Keighran and Miss Hortense who will join my wife Julia and I supervising the children over the weekend. One of the great strengths of Gordon West is the willingness of teachers to readily give up their own free time to ensure that Gordon West children have the opportunity to experience such adventures. Thank you to the school community for your support of the school uniform policy as determined by the parents of Gordon West under the School Fair Discipline policy. Staff at Gordon West monitor the wearing of uniform to ensure adherence to the school policy. Community support of the policy has many positive features in relation to developing school tone and culture. Thank you to Mrs Jane Baxter for running the Uniform Shop so capably, ensuring that uniforms are readily available and payment options are streamlined to facilitate efficiency. Parents are reminded that full winter uniform is to be worn from Monday 9 May. Term 2 Week 3) J Huckerby Principal

A Request from the Kindergarten Teachers

On Friday mornings the Kindergarten teachers set up Gross Motor ac vi es in the playground before the bell.  In the last couple of weeks a number of the ac vi es have been changed, moved or packed away before the bell has gone.  We would like to ask that parents do not allow their children to play with or move these ac vi es as it disrupts the commencement of Gross Motor lessons.

Mrs Garland came to visit with baby Thomas this week.

Mr Huckerby celebrates a “milestone” birthday.
