The Vice Presidency The Vice President of the United States is Joe Biden. Joe Biden has served as

a City Council Member and as a Senator from Delaware for many years before his election to the vice presidency. He is married to Jill Biden and they have three children. Mr. Biden has an extraordinary record in US foreign policy and is currently working on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, as well as chairing the Middle Class Task Force. VP Biden's background in foreign policy makes him a great advisor to Obama and Biden often travels around the world as an ambassador of the United States. As Vice president, he has many responsibilities and powers, some that are included in the Constitution, such as assuming the presidency at a moment's notice. He serves as the President of the US Senate, advisor to the President, and many of his roles and powers are delegated by the President himself, not the Constitution.

THE FIRST LADY

Michelle ObamaAlthough the position of the First Lady is not an official one

and carries no salary, it is nonetheless a significant role in the White House. She is, first and foremost, the hostess of the White House. She organizes and attends official ceremonies and functions of state either along with, or in place of, the president.

In recent decades the First Ladies have assumed roles as political activists, focusing on one issue in American society. Michelle Obama's problem of choice is child obesity.
