History

It is the worlds most extensive stretch of coral reef The first signs of The Great Barrier Reef appeared about 500,0000

years ago It is believed that the first sighting of The Great Barrier Reef was

around the year 1522 by a Portuguese expedition led by Christovao de Mendonca

Now The Great Barrier Reef draws more then one million visitors a year

Due to so many tourists it generates more than 6 billion dollars of revenue per year
