Google Hummingbird

Working

Advantage and disadvantage

INTRODUCTION

Google is a search engine and people search several

things in Google to get accurate information.

Google has the huge database and results crop .

Google Hummingbird, named for the “fast and precise”

results it is intended to deliver, was announced at the

company’s 15th anniversary conference on September 26,

2013.

HISTORAY

In the past, the Google algorithm would change very

infrequently. If your site was sitting at #1 for a certain

keyword, it was guaranteed to stay there until the next

update which might not happen for weeks or months.

This all changed with launch of "Caffeine" in 2010.

Since Caffeine launched, the search engine results have

been changing several times a day rather than every few

weeks.

Google makes over 600 changes to its algorithm in

a year.

Google makes a really big change, they give it a

name, usually make an announcement.

Three of the biggest changes that have happened in the

last few years are the Panda algorithm, the Penguin

algorithm and Hummingbird.

EVALUTION

Google Hummingbird

Google Penguin

Google Panda

GOOGLE PANDA

Panda ‘forecloses’ on link farms

Remove ‘spammy’ links; Build organic backlinksnaturally.

Remove Low Quality Content; Focus On Unique Content

Concentrate On Building Trust and Authority

Keep Advertising Ratio Healthy

Recognize, Understand and Track Panda Updates

GOOGLE PENGUIN

Puts a deep freeze on web spam in Google's search

results

No “Artificial” Or “Unnatural” Links to web

Sites need to provide original, high quality content

Duplicate content is targeted

HUMMINGBIRD ALGORITHM

What’s a “search algorithm?”

That’s a technical term for what you can think of as a recipe

that Google uses to sort through the billions of web pages and

other information it has, in order to return what it believes are

the best answers.

Why is it called Hummingbird?

Google told us the name come from being “precise and fast.”

When did Hummingbird start? Today?

Google started using Hummingbird about a month ago, it said.

Google only announced the change today.

KNOWLEDGE GRAPH:

The Knowledge Graph is a knowledge base used by Google to enhance

its search engine 's search results with semantic-search information gathered

from a wide variety of sources

PAGE RANK ALGORITHM

A webpage’s ranking is determined by analyzing the ranking of all

the other webpages that link to the webpage in question. It is

calculated as,

‘n’ = the number of pages in the web.

C(Tn) = the PageRank of each page by the number of outgoing links on that

page

d= damping factor decrease the influence of all of the pages in relation

to the page in question

Example :

PageRank(p1) = (1- 0.5) + 0.5{ PR(p3)/3 +

PR(p4)/2 + ….}

HUMMINGBIRD UPDATE

It has updated the Page Rank Algorithm. It uses intelligent ranking

of webpages.

It takes into account question based queries like “why”, “who”,

“when", "what” etc.

The motivation for the ‘Hummingbird’ update, was the advent

voice-recognition searching.

o Indexing faster and put a higher premium on pages that are

more recent.

o Relationally links search queries and Web documents

o Pays more attention to each word in a query, ensuring that the

whole query - the whole sentence or conversation or meaning

- is taken into account, rather than particular words.

FEATURES OF HUMMINGBIRD

ALGORITHM

Hummingbird expands the use of the Knowledge Graph , so that Google

answers more complex search queries and also improves the follow-up

search process.

Forexample, if we first search “picture of Washington Monument” and then

do a second search for “how tall is it?” Google will understand the context

of your second query.

Comparisons

The knowledge graph enables more comparisons between

search objects (ex: “compare butter vs olive oil”, “compare Earth vs

Jupiter” etc.).

Geo-location enhancement

If someone asks “What’s the best place to buy an iPhone 5s?”

then Google will likely bring a result near to his current location.

Improved mobile search design and functionality

Voice search and Android/iPhone synchronization are improved

and will likely continue to improve quickly.

ADVANTAGE

Search Engine can parse full query more quickly.

Google will be able to identify and rank content .

Search Engine can compile voice-based queries more

accurately.

Google will only return relevant search results.

DISADVANTAGE

Google becomes more powerful. So webmaster will

totally dependent upon Google.

Small blogs having great content usually get penalized.

Large website in the corporate world mostly gets more

exposure.

It is harder to get profit from your own original content.
