Why Google Fiber?

● In February 2010, Google issued a request for information to communities of 50,000-500,000 residents, seeking a location in which to build an ultra high-speed, fiber-to-the-home network. o Nearly 1100 towns and 200,000 individuals responded

● In March 2011, Google selected Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO as the first cities to receive Google Fiber

● Google Fiber is expanding to other communities in the Kansas City area

● On April 9, 2013 Google Fiber announced that we're expanding to Austin, TX. And, on April 17, we announced that we would be coming to Provo, UT.

Exploring New Cities for Google Fiber

We’ve invited 34 cities in 9 metro areas across the U.S. to work with us and explore what it would take to bring Google Fiber into their community.

What Are We Up To Now?

We’re going to work closely with city leaders on a joint planning process that will assess what unique local construction challenges we might face, and map out how we can work together to minimize disruption for both city officials and local residents.

1. Google will... work on a detailed study of all of the local factors that could affect construction plans.

Make Data Available● streamline planning by making various kinds of city data (pole location,

water and gas line location, building codes, address information etc) available for use by network builders like Google

Access to infrastructure● Reasonable terms for a license to make use of city assets like land at

commercially reasonable rates● Ensure that infrastructure in the public right of way can be accessed

Streamline processes ● Work with us to create a plan for permitting at scale

Aligns with best practices of FTTH Council, US Conference of Mayors, and others

We will work to help cities… complete a checklist of items that will help get them ready for a fiber construction project
