Faithbridge Presbyterian MenRemodel Our Weight Room

When the Faithbridge Presbyterian Youth Group from Frisco, Texas came to Goodland this summer, they brought a few new faces with them. A couple of those faces were sponsors who also belong to Faithbridge’s Men’s Group. After spending a week with us, those guys were hooked. When they returned to Frisco, they couldn’t wait to come back, so we scheduled a work weekend for the Men’s Group. During the summer visit, Scott from Faithbridge, noticed the gable ends and soffits on the old Resale Shop, which is now the Weight Room, were in need of attention. So that became the men’s project. Faithbridge arrived hauling a trailer full of supplies and tools in addition to 11 hard working guys. They tore out the old gables and soffits, replaced old rotted framing, installed new gable and soffit vents, and covered it all with Hardie Board. While one crew was working on the outside, another crew was busy on the interior putting up new light fixtures throughout. We had a great hamburger cookout and fellowship after calling it quits on the first day. The next morning we all met in the chapel to worship together, and the plan was to finish the last details on the work started the previous day, however the weather was uncooperative. So, the group cleaned up the site and prepared to go home, with promises to return soon to finish up. In the process though, with all the rain and heavy loads on the trailer, one of the trucks got stuck in the mud. Thankfully the tractor was able to pull them right out. We are thankful for all the hard work done by the Faithbridge Men’s Group and look forward to seeing them again soon. Our Weight Room looks so much better and this work will be a lasting reminder of their service. We are always so thankful for all of our groups. The long term relationships which we already enjoy, as well as the new relationships that are just starting, are healthy both for our youth and our facilities. These groups have become a vital part of our success and ministry to those who could not find help outside of Goodland. ANNUAL CONCERT

The annual concert with Peter Mayer to be held at Kirk of the Hills is scheduled for Friday, December 18th this year. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m., so get it on your calendars now.

The Harvest is Plentiful,The Laborers Are Few

The state of Oklahoma reports over 8000 children needing care, and those are just the ones that call the state for help. However, there are less than 350 beds available for these children. Rather than expanding these programs nationally, the states have ceased funding and referrals. The need is growing, parents are getting desperate for help, yet across the United States facilities are having to close their doors as funding dries up.

Goodland is the only facility in the state of Oklahoma that provides disadvantaged and neglected youth with year-round specialized education. We have received calls as far away as New York, parents unable to find help for their children with ADD, ADHD, ODD and BiPolar disorder. Our program has only a capacity for 20 boys and a small endowment. The life and future growth of Goodland depends upon supporters like you.
