Nationally Known Teaching Facility

GSC is located on the campus of GoodSamaritan Hospital, a 700-bed nationallyknown teaching facility. GSH serves patientsin medicine, psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics,surgery and surgical specialties, emergencycare, rehabilitation medicine, hemodialysis,intensive care for infants and adults, andcoronary care. Nursing students have theopportunity to gain experience in areas ofthe hospital, as well as with communityagencies and other health care facilitiesthroughout the Cincinnati area.

Personal Learning

Our students have many opportunities forone-on-one attention.They work withfaculty in small groups; our student/facultyratio is approximately 8 to 1.And our strongclinical/labs component gives students thechance to hone their skills with direct inputfrom faculty members.

Student Financial Support

GSC financial aid programs provideassistance through grants, loans andscholarships. In fact, GSC has approximately50 scholarships available exclusively for ourstudents.We also help more than 90% of ourstudents receive financial assistance.

Pass Rate

Our nurses graduate well-prepared to takethe national licensing exam (NCLEX) whichis necessary to practice as a registered nurse.In recent figures (3-year average), 89.4% ofour students passed the test the first time.Nationally, that percentage was 84.9% for thesame time period.

Upon finishing the program, our graduatesquickly find work in the health care field.Our placement rate is 100%.

A student is admitted on thebasis of his/her composite record ofeducational background and life experiences.Applications will be considered when completedapplication form with fee, all official high schooltranscripts, all official post-secondary educationtranscripts and results of all standardized tests have beenreceived by the Admissions Office.

G e n e r a l A d m i s s i o n C r i t e r i a

1. The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited high school, with a cumulativeGPA of 2.25 or above. The General Education Development Test (GED) isacceptable with an average score of at least 2250 and no score lower than 410 onindividual sections.

2. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above is required in the following high school courses:English 4 UnitsMath [Algebra required] 4 Units (2 Units*)Science [Chemistry required] 3 Units (2 Units*)Social Studies 3 Units (2 Units*)* requirements for those who graduated from high school prior to July, 2003.Other recommended subjects include: biology, foreign language, physics, andcomputer technology.

3. One of the following Standardized Tests:Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) with a combined score of 750 (1130 for the three-part test) or American College Testing Assessment Test (ACT) with a compositescore of 18.

4. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States.

5. International transcripts submitted must be certified through translation services.

Transfer StudentsAny applicant who has attempted coursework for credit at another post-secondaryinstitution is classified as a transfer student.

To be considered for admission the transfer applicant must:1. Meet the Admissions Standards and Regulations;2. Be in good standing at the previous college attended;3. Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above.

Applicant’s achievement in previous nursing courses will be evaluated on anindividual basis. Transcripts of previous education must be provided. Catalogsand/or course syllabi may be requested to determine transferability of credit.

Transfer students must complete a minimum of 48 credits (20 credits in nursingand 12 credits in general education courses) in the program to qualify forgraduation. The maximum credit in nursing that will transfer is 6 credit hours(Nursing I equivalent). An LPN articulating into the nursing program is eligible toreceive 14 nursing credits based on the Ohio Articulation Model.

Getting StartedThe College admits students for the Fall and Springsemesters.This admission is a rolling admission based on thedate all application materials are received.1. Review Admissions Standards and Regulations on website.2. Fill out application and submit it with the application fee.3. Have official transcripts or GED sent from high school

and colleges attended directly to Good Samaritan College.4. When all information is submitted and reviewed, you

will be notified.

Once Accepted1. Pay Matriculation Fee to reserve a place in an

enrollment period.2. Complete the required physical examination including

required immunizations.3. Pass a drug screen and police check.4. Complete the College Readiness Assessment Testing.

The mission of theStudent Success Programis to assist students in thedevelopment of an academic planthat will maximize their potential forsuccess through use of specializedresources (academic assistance,counseling and testing assessment).

Academic Assistance

Academic assistance is available through anindividualized learning program, offering one-to-oneinstruction with a Learning Specialist. Timemanagement, improvement of study habits, test takingand motivation are some of the skills taught.

Counseling

One goal of GSC is to help students develop theirpotential as self-reliant individuals. A full-timecounselor is available for personal counseling and as aresource for referral services in the community.

Assessment Testing

Assessment testing is conducted prior to entranceinto the college. ACT’s COMPASS, which measuresknowledge and skills in reading, writing andmathematics, is administered. Critical Thinking skillsare assessed with the administration of the EntranceCritical Thinking Test from the AssessmentTechnologies Institute (ATI).

The College promotes arich educational atmosphere byencouraging leadership and socialskills through student life and governmentopportunities, as well as academics.

The Student Organization promotes thegeneral welfare of the student body. It consistsof students who are elected to represent theinterests and opinions of their peers.

The College holds several student eventsthroughout the year. Fall picnics, Spring SpiritOlympics, holiday activities, special interestgroups and community service projects are animportant part of the student experience.

Library Services

The Library Services are located on the campuses ofGood Samaritan Hospital and Bethesda NorthHospital. As a member of the Greater CincinnatiLibrary Consortium and the Southwest Ohio andNeighboring Libraries (SWON), students, faculty andstaff have access to resources from the 74 memberlibraries.

Media Center

A multi-media learning center, located in the college,offers a variety of audiovisual materials, equipmentand computers for classroom and individual use inmeeting course objectives.

Alumni Association

All graduates are members of the Alumni Association.The association holds many educational and socialprograms throughout the year. The Alumni AnnualFund Campaign raises funds to provide scholarshipsfor students and alumni and support for collegeneeds, such as equipment, technology and facultydevelopment.
