We believe the church should reflect Jesus by
being generous people, giving our time,
talents, and resources to God’s Kingdom and
the work that is still to be done. It is our joy to
honor the Lord with our giving.
Good News
PASTOR’S CORNER
To all members, supporters and to our community:
Last week, I did a live Facebook post on the beach. The wind made parts of
the message difficult to understand. Over the last few weeks, the messages
posted by St. Luke have been live and some have been prerecorded.
Although a little risky, I like the spontaneity surrounding the live broadcast.
If I drop my glasses or stumble over a word, it adds authenticity to the post and to the
moment. The word authentic means true, reliable, dependable, faithful, genuine, realistic
and trustworthy. I/we can extend the highest of accolades to our staff and volunteers for
their efforts to live into the above words – especially over the last few weeks. Numerous
new opportunities and challenges have presented themselves, and they have excelled in
the opportunities and overcome the challenges. Our shared ministry will benefit from
their efforts for years to come.
Our shared ministry is a powerful concept for the ministries at St. Luke. “Shared” simply
means that we are “all in” together – because we are a community and called to be to be
like a lighthouse to the broader community. Many of us are missing the community and our
shared worship with its hugs, handshakes, smiles, singing, prayers, praises, presence and
kind words. Even with two deaths within our church family this week, our love, prayers,
and presence can still be felt. During this crisis period, our missional needs and efforts
have enlarged within our immediate community. Many people find themselves “without
period” (help, food, water, electricity, lodging). The St. Luke family continues to step-up and
help whenever possible.
The Leadership and Staff of St. Luke UMC will keep us all updated on our continued plans
to monitor and adapt our church’s plans for responding to the COVID-19 virus. We are all
aware that the virus continues to spread around our country, the world, and South
Carolina. Our continued response is to pray for God’s healing and wholeness for those
infected, those who have lost friends and family members, and for guidance and strength
“for such a time as this.” Most of us are caught up in unfamiliar circumstances–with some
rough water to travel in the days ahead. As I mentioned earlier of the rough wind, we can
hold onto the fact that we serve the Lord. Just as Jesus told the wind and waves to become
peaceful, Jesus offers us peace.
As we prepare for Holy Thursday and Good Friday, may we remember that Sunday is
coming – Easter Sunday. With all of the suffering and uncertainty of our current situations,
let us remember that Sunday is Coming! Sunday is Coming! The day when God said no to
death. Sunday is Coming! The day that God said no to the grave. Sunday is Coming! The
day when Jesus rose from the grave. Sunday is Coming! The day we celebrate the empty
tomb.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Carl
